Relax you are safe. The United State's military service is a volunteer force. The only way that you would be forced to go is if we get into a major conflict with another nation. And believe me there is not one country that is willing to go to war with the United States. Our Air Force alone is bigger than the next 16 nations following us so that is a great deterrent. Although we are currently in a war in Iraq, the future wars will be wars of ideology. The biggest threat to the United States is North Korea at this point however they do not have the equipment or the supplies to sustain a war. Don't get me wrong the North Koreans have a lot of missles, tanks, and army forces but they don't have the fuel, food, or other necessary equipment to sustain a war. The wars that we will be involved in in the near future is the war against terrorism and islamic extremists. These people are all over the place and require small forces that can surprise them. These wars that we are in now are wars of the mind and of what we consider right from wrong. To win this war against terrorism we have to win the hearts and minds of future generations of people who may be exposed to religious fanatics. Congress will not reenact the draft and if they do then it will be because we need it real bad. I have been in the military and if this was the case then I would be on the lines with you. And I can tell you, that there is nothing more scarier than facing millions of angry Americans marching to war. Ask Hitler; oops sorry he is dead. The war we are in now involves dealing with people who know they can't face us on the battlefield so they use trickery and ambushes to fight us. And don't forget that we have other nations who will join along side of us. Although many countries are mad at us, they will not allow the United States to be defeated because if our economy suffers then the world's economy suffers. And you can best be sure that they are not going to want to see their countries go down also. Have a good night's sleep and if you haven't then plan to go to college.

No you will not have to go to the army or any other branch of the military. I have been to iraq twice and i can honestly say that if you are asking this question, i don't want you to be there watching my back. That is why i am glad that i am surrounded by guys that had the balls to join and do this job. We all saw it as our duty and we felt we should show a little pride in our country and our way of life... that we felt we should do our part in preserving our freedoms for the future of America. So... Don't worry you do not have to go. And you probably do not belong here, it is a very hard way of life. This is coming from an Infantry Marine.

At the moment there's no draft, so you don't *have* to go. You certainly can if you want to and meet their qualifications. If you're over 18 you have to be registered with the Selective Service, but that's not the same thing as actually joining.
