I decided to try and learn how to play guitar recently.

My uncle let me borrow his classic guitar, but the next day after reading up on guitars, I learned that the fret board on a classic is wider. I had been experiencing difficulty getting my fingers all the way around to the low E string.

If I get a regular acoustic guitar, will the difference in fret boards be significant enough to help me?

Definitely! But most acoustics have steel strings. You can string them with regular classic nylons, provided the ball end type is used.

If you're motivated to play the instrument, getting used to steel strings and the hurting fingertips will pass and you'll be the better for it.

I have a classical as well, and yes it will be easier. However, I found that after playing my classical for a while and go back to my regular one it is way easier. It really helps improve my finger strength.
