No - and yes. Swallowed gum does not stay in the stomach or cause intestinal problems. That's because our bodies move most materials that can't be digested (like gum) through the digestive system and out of our bodies in a bowel movement. In rare cases, swallowing a large mass of gum, or many small pieces of gum over a short period of time, can block the digestive tract. Blockages in the digestive system are most likely to happen when gum is swallowed along with other indigestible things (like sunflower seed shells). I wouldn't encourage it but there's not really anything to worry about..

First of all I just wish everyone would forget the myth that it takes 7 years to get gum out of your digestive track. It takes maybe a week or so and no dager to children. If it was really hazardous it be a lot more exploited.

No, it isn't. Don't believe all of the urban myths such as it taking several years for it to be digested. Gum loses its stickiness when it hits the stomach acids. It is digested like any other solid food.

Too much information? Sorry, just wanted to be thorough.

yes it is it gets stuck inside the walls of their stomach and the only way to remove it is to drink 1-2 teaspoons (depends how often they swallow their gum) of Olive oil. My family has tried this home remedy for years and it always works.

I've heard that it takes 7 years to digest. That might be an old wives tale though.
