Ask the previous owner, look in the owner's hand book, or contact VW.
Of course, if you brought a stolen radio then you're stuffed - a quite rightly too.

I would just get a new one. You can get a better radio for that car for 100$ and all you would need is a wire harness 18.50 and free install at best buy;) I could be the one installing it.
