I meant Indian (from India). I moved to USA five years ago, so this change comes as a huge cultural shock to me and anyone I have talked to. I inquired with my friends in India too, they said that "Hain yaar India bigaad kya hain". Was wondering whats your reaction? and if its the same please tell me why are we putting upto it? Whatever happened to being proud of our culture? And if you are supporting this change, I would apprecaite if you can shed your point of view to this issue. I am putting this question with and an open mind and is more like a survey to see where we stand on this.

i am a very proud indian
and believe that our forefathers did a lot to sav ethe country ur question is not abt writing essays its simply abt r we degrading our culture then i must tell that we r
have u seen the way ppl r running after the american culture and the americans r running after the indian culture
its like a dog chasing its own tail
wts the point americans come to india and admire the qualities that we have kept our traditions and culture intact after all these years also and we continue to colobrate it
they like the color and the vibrance and the fact that we still live together as families
and here in india we r running after their culture (no offense)
but is too different from ours
the children leave their parents at a early age and their traditions are kept in small communities only
its all abt the youth of our country out of evry 10 ids 6 want to go to usa and settle ther e
have u seen how horribly they have been treating any brown skinned man after the london attacks and 9/11
until and unless the youth try and support our country india can go nower
wt will the poor do if all the ppl go off abroad and the r left in india obviously the poverty will rise and the population will increase
and all the abv answers abt respecting their culture is pure crap
they know it in there hrts that thay do not do that

kank is an good example
abhishek screaming at rani tht she is not good in bed is being shown to a 6 year old kid
wt will he do
i mean
is this being proud of our cultur
no it isnt our cultur does nt teach us this
it all lies in the hands of the youth of today

Guess the statement is about Indian Indian
Then
The culture and heritage is strong with a solid base
have an experience of more than 6000years
studied and absorbed many goodies of many culture

Now the present generation is not purely based on this culture
they are part of Indo-western culture. A boiling creamy layer.
Those who are worried about the degrading of culture
are not talking about that real native culture but this new culture
since it is not stable, still strive to get mature.
But the purist among them fear about the over-turn of the old culture and a replacement with western one.
Actually they are fear full of a cultural invasion.
i think this sort of full replacement is not real when we see through the history of India. In every situation the Indian culture was capable of accepting the best and rejecting the worst.
It is sound.

Best regards

I have heard very good things about Indian culture here in the USA. There are many hotel, convenience store owners here. None of them have complained to me about people degrading their culture
We've known Indian doctors and engineers. They too have been given a warm welcome, at least where I grew up, in Galesburg, Illinois.

You have to be more specific, and say, who is it who is degrading your culture?

And you must also, to be fair, ask why the United States, Canada, and the U.K. have been so very supportive of Indians and Indian culture? If there was so very much degradation, why do we see so many professionals, educated people, come to the West?

If you really feel that your culture is being degraded, stay in India and help your own people. Don't come to the US, abandon your own communities, and then cry that your culture is being degraded. Rather, it is you who betray your own poor, your own fellow Indians, by not staying and helping them rise out of poverty.

Please explain how you see "putting up with the degrading" of your culture. What is being degrading. If you mean naming sport teams after some words that reflect greatness of the Indians of old, then I believe your culture is thinking in reverse.

We as white man Americans I believe are trying to honor your heritage. But for some reason just the word like Redskins, which to me means great honorable fighter, or Warriors, which mean to me, brave men, or even the word Braves, which to us English speaking Americans mean great Indian warriors and brave men.

How does that degrade the Indians? When we name our teams it is for because we want the world to know how great our teams are. If I were to name my child, Running Elk, am I degrading Indians? If your name is Running Elk, I would be giving my child a name to be proud of. At least if my name was Running Elk, I would be proud to have a name sake. Same with naming teams with word of the Great Past of the Indian.

So if your culture is being degraded, it is being degraded by your present culture.

We name our teams after great strong animals and also great strong tribes of Indians. This is a far cry from degrading.

I think you are fighting the wrong cause. The more you fight again the White man who is trying to honor you the more we white men shake our heads in disbelief.

People are ignorant to what they don't understand, regardless of the culture. Some are just ignorant, that's just the way it is. We all learn from one another, there is good and bad in all. We are fortunate to meet and share with the good which helps balance when we have to deal with the bad. We or myself don't like it as much as the next guy...so to speak, but closed minded helps no one. Unfortunately, we have to carry our load and extra for those who can help themselves in all cultures...but don't for whatever the reason and we are all caught in the polical spin of it. All we can do is the best we can with what we have. It is wonderful to encounter the kind hearted ones we get to meet and socialize with who gives us their quality time and we are inspired by them as they perhaps by us and move forward with new ideas of hope for a better tomorrow for us...our children...and families around the globe. Myself beleive it or not often am tuned into the television station regularly to watch and learn all about the Indian culture/s etc...I love it! I enjoy everything about that station, unfortunately I can't think of the channel at this precice second, but it is a favorite of mine personally...the news, the cultures, the up coming events etc...It is my hope, that all continue to be proud of their heritage. Be not discouraged, but encouraged...who knows maybe tomorrow, next week, I'll need a friend like you...to help brighten my day, but all I have is hope and it is enough. Take care, wishing you the best!

Indians who have a proud history of culture are India's Indian.
I think culture is safe in the hands of the younger generation. This was a query posed by our ancestors too but culture has not been diluted only it has adapted itself from time to time to survive.

In this free world every one has right to say anything.
Some one's degrading should not let us bother.

The worlds politics changes each day. For example in the time of Nixon presidency, he blatantly opposed any thing about India.

But then times changed, India remained persistant and kept working for its own good. Since Carter presidency it all changed,
and now US is in helping mood with India.

Similarly if we are good, be good, ignore bad remarks, and your degrader will some day be your admirer.

I believe even jews were once hated, but today they hold the power. So persistance pays.

I agree to what salapan commented here, his comments I'm pasting below n I'm adding something of my own also below it :-

salapan
Level 3

How many of us know our culture and heritage? How many of us know the value of these? How many of us respect our culture?

The answer to your question lies in these questions..Anyway, nice to know that there are people who are concerned about our cultural degradation..

Salapan is absolutely right, I myself have been worried a lot for whatz been done to our culture through various ways, people of our own country are kicking each others back instead of helping each other(helping, which ones used to be one of an in-built characteristics of Indians) & moreover The Character of Indian people(Character, which used to be the best feature of Indian people) is fast deteriorating in this modern world.
So, we need to improve on ourselves first then blame anybody else.
