I don't know why I'm so amazed by all of the misinformed people who post. The very beginnings of capoeira are hazy, but it did become the hub for a lot of street gangs in Brazil. One of the things you learn about when you learn capoeira is malicio, or essentially being street wise, wise about the trickery. There are two main styles in practice now, regional which is the showy, aerial style and Angolan, a slower and lower and trickier style. As for being a young person's art, while it might be true that it might help to be young when you start learning, I was 32 when I started. While some of it is a bit showy, you should never write off an art completely as those above have done. There are definitely a lot of things in capoeira that are very useful.

I'm interested to enroll in a class someday. I'm always awestruck by practitioners of this particular martial art, since they all look so lithe and graceful, yet tough at the same time! ;-)

It's a dance. You can't really do it anymore when you get older because of it's moves. Better to learn practical martial arts that you can really use in real life.

Great for contests with rules and what not, but it's virtually useless in a streetfight or mixed martial arts bout.

It's a beautifuul art that is fast and exciting. It is hard to learn and very fun to watch.
