christians really worry me with their belief that religion is the only thing holding people back from rape and murder. i have no desire for those things - what are they revealing about themselves except that their philosophy has failed them - and us - utterly.

I never said that or thought that.

Some Atheists may actually have MORE morals than "Christians!" or "Religious people!"

To think otherwise is foolish!

To think that Atheists won't get to heaven is Foolish also. God will PICK the best and leave the rest behind.

Don't be suprised to find God taking some Atheist and leaving a "Jerry Fawell" behind!

God is not stupid nor bigoted!

God is an equal opportunity God.

Anyone who is truly good is in God's graces, no matter what you sex, creed, color, religion, lack of religion or belief system is, will be welcomed by God.

I wonder, however, how Atheists will react to this fact when it actually happens!

(Even more importantly, how will the "Relgious" react if their names are NOT in the book of life! God doesn't want people who do things for rewards, God wants GOOD people!)

It seems that the only people who think atheists have no morals are the same people who would go out and kill someone if the bible didn't say it was bad. Some people also think that atheists are under the control of Satan (lol) so they get the idea from that too.

Basically, the idea that atheists have no morals is out of pure ignorance of how society and humans work.

It is common sense, but what people need to understand just because you live a life with good morals and intentions and are a pretty honest person does not get you into heaven. There are alot of wonderful people out there that have led a pretty disciplined lifestyle but if they have not come to the point where they have taken him as their Lord and Saviour then they will not have eternal life in HEAVEN !

The morals of atheist shift constantly. For example, on the one hand some of you are correct in denouncing slavery. You correctly say that it should have been obvious to people of that time that blacks were people who deserved protection under the law. However in the very next breath many of you will say that a baby in the womb is not a person. Or you may praise Darwin whose theory of evolution perpetuated the myth that black were a lees evolved form of human. You know the more closely related to apes argument. How is it that atheist can see our past and still deny a baby's right to live? How is it that atheist think it appropriate to grant themselves the right to decide who is worthy of the title "person". Simple. It is because they have decided that their is no authority above mankind. It is they have in effect decided that they are gods. Without the stability of a belief in a higher power, this is inevitable.

I wonder this myself.

I was watching an episode of 30 days where an atheist went and lived with some christians. They acted like atheists grow up violent and immoral because they don't have god to tell them what to do.

Hello!? People can be good for the sake of being a good human being. You're willing to tell me that the only reason you [religious people] have morals is because god tells you to?

That just sounds weak to me. It's like saying "Atheists are good because it's the right thing to do, [insert religion here] are good only because god tells them to." It sounds like the only reason they care about other humans is because god tells them to.

Because people can't imagine what it's like not to believe in God- or a higher power. And when you don't understand something- you automatically think alot of OTHER things must be "a certain way", also. "Common sense", unfortunately, - is not as common as we all wish it were. I suspect there are alot of border-line saints out there- who don't believe in ANYTHING but themselves. And let's face it, wouldn't you rather have one of THEM living next door to you- than some self-righteous religious fanatic who you're afraid to say a cross word to for fear you're going to injure their sensitivities? I believe that God loves us ALL (Atheists, agnostics, & liberals too. :) ), so maybe our "morality" is not as important to God as it is to us.

Great question...I only see a problem with needing a document telling you how to behave and some guy telling you your going to hell if you don't listen. I am proud to say that as an atheist, I can be a good person because I realize that it is important.

You don't need God to tell you how to treat people. You need God to save your eternal life. To believe in him. Anyone can be good and not believe, but believing brings great glory to God and reward of eternal life with our Father!

They use this feeble argument to make themselves feel better.
The truth is, all morality is subjective, not objective.
And it changes and evolves as socieity changes and evolves.
Religion has VERY little to do with morality.
Look at the Crusades and the Witch hunts if you're not convinced...

Actually not thats not true - as humans, we are born naturally with evil in our hearts - greed, cruelty, etc. is our instincts for survival: look out for number one only. for example - a baby. this baby has a toy. its playing with this toy happily. you take this toy. the baby screams and cries. the baby feels anger because the baby knows there is nothing he/she can do to get it back - but if that baby could, he/she would move heaven and earth to get that toy back - even if it meant others would lose their lives. the baby would not care. throuh conditioning however, parents shut off these things and make them "humane" people.
