Why is it that Atheists don't beleive anything. Please don't give me a smart alec answer. But i really want to know...What does it hurt to at least beleive in God? If it turns out it really is a big hoax so what you died and its over for you anyway. If it is true then you have the comfort of knowing where you are going. Why not just believe?

It's not that they all have a belief about God. Some have the belief that a god does not exist, that is still a belief just as believing god does exist is a belief.

There are also people that think that if we can't prove it, why waste time worrying about it? It's not that they are saying He does or does not exist, more there is no proof and trying to prove it is impossible and futile.

Still others see all of these wars and murders committed in the name of religion. If there was an all-gracious God, why would He let people kill each other in His name?

Not believing in God does not mean a person does not believe in a soul or an afterlife. Some people just subscribe to beliefs not held in any religion.

For the record, I do believe in a God. It still makes sense to me how people can choose not to, though.

As an open minded Atheist, I will evaluate any evidence of a God, any God, you care to present. Keep in mind I said EVIDENCE, any sentence that begins, "I believe, think, have faith etc" is not now and never will be evidence. Pretend you are in a court of law.

And don't ask me to prove there is no God. Proving a negative is quite impossible but proving a positive, like the existence of God, should be relatively simple. After all you have the Bible. Perhaps you would you like me to go into that convoluted, contradictory, piece of fiction.

BTW, I don't believe in Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, fairies, elves, dragons, and a number of other fantasies. By your (lack of) logic, I probably should. After all what does it hurt to believe in fictitious characters. I choose to believe that Jim Kirk and the Star Ship Enterprise is, at the moment, in orbit around Earth, does that make it true? What does it hurt???

Sorry, but I tire of this perpetual question. You should feel blessed by God, as this may well be the last time I acknowledge this silly question with a response.

How many times is this going to be asked...

I can't speak for all, most seem to have been raised with religion and left it. MYSELF on the other hand, I was born and raised a non believer, my family does not believe, I do not nor have I ever had the desire to believe.

I saw a bit of church for a time and vacation bible school two different summers as a child because despite the fact that we are non believers, my mother thought it was still a good idea that I got to see what other people believe. And left it open for me to decide for myself. I never believed any of it, it was never real to me, and it wasn't until some years later that I realized the other people believed those stories to be real. It didn't change me, I have no desire or need for it.

As a believer it is not possible for you to understand HOW it is that some people can simply not believe in a deity, this I have come to learn. It's just the way it is, so don't drive yourself crazy (or us) by wondering.

"just in case christians" will burn in hell with the atheists, because they do not truly believe, according to some christians I've talked to. They are believing with the hopes that they will get a reward, in case there is a god. Also these people will be subject to "just believing" in other things that may be ultimately bad for them. Exactly which god should I choose anyway? There have been thousands created throughout time. How do you know which one to "just believe" in.

I know, because I live it, that belief in things that there is no evidence of is unnecessary for living, and quality of life.

Have a nice night.

JUST STOP BRINGING UP PASCAL'S WAGER!!! IT HAS BEEN DEBUNKED SO MANY FREAKIN' TIMES!!! Now that I got that out, it depends on the atheist. Some believe in an afterlife or reincarnation. But if you're talkin specifically about a god, then it would probably be because they were raised by atheists parents or they decided that for some reason that the world doesn't need god to function.

You can have beliefs and be Atheist, only my beliefs aren't religious in nature they are more aimed at my morals and principals. I don't need to believe in God to be a good person and have morals just like everyone else that does believe, I have found it quite funny that people won't even have anything to do with me after I tell them that I am Atheist even though we just had a pleasant conversation until it turned to religion. Everyone doesn't have to conform just because you think they should. I think you should respect everyones decision to believe what they want to, and not go around telling people that they should believe in God.

I do not believe in a man made imaginary being. I've agonized over my beliefs for years. The scripts were re-written, many people who claim to believe in God know next to nothing about their own religions, I have been hounded by believers to convert, been told I will burn in hell, was told to baptize my son because he will not have a place in heaven otherwise. It is all just too negative, and I'd rather seek knowledge and science than what I consider to be a fairytale.

It is my opinion, and my understanding.

many answers here doen't make sense..anyway God cleary said I am the way, the truth and the life, no man goes to heaven but by me..so i guess we know the truth. Those who are atheiests its just too bad. They were given a change but ignored it. When you meet Jesus and if He were to ask you, "my child why didnt you believe in me?" what will you say ? at that time you can give 100 and 1 reasons, but its too late....

There is no evidence supporting the existence of any gods and I will have ended up wasting days of my life on religion. And look up Pascal's Wager, I've explained this twice today and I don't feel like digging it up again.

Because it's hard to believe in somethign when you think it's complete bullshit. Especially when the people you know who believe in god are hypocrites and losers.

When I was a Christian, I got no "comfort" from believing in "god". I am happier now, being an Athiest. I believe in me, I believe in loving my life, I believe in having a great life, I believe in being a good person, and I don't need a "god", or some crock of sh*t religion to help me.
