First of all, It is very common when there is something exciting happening that people have trouble sleeping. I bet you are all excited about your first day back at school. It can also be a scary and nervous thing too. Either way I know it will be a great day for you. Sometimes when I can't sleep I will take a nice warm bath. This will relax your muscles and slow down your thoughts. Try not to think so much about tomorrow's events and slow down. Sometimes putting in some nice soft music will help too. I realize it is the day before you have to go to school but sometimes it is better to plan earlier in the summer. Routine is a really good thing in everyday life. Try and go to sleep at the same time every night. Don't drink caffine and don't watch programs that involve violence. Breathe and just know tomorrow your day will turn out great. Keep you chin up!!

it is too late to run out and get this tonight, but you may want to have some on hand for the future.
your local pharmacy should have it...it is a natural supplement, over the counter. It is natural and non-addictive. My doctor recommended it for my daughter and it works like a charm.
It is called Melatonin.

For tonight, try a cup of warm milk, or yogurt.
Or Sleepy Time tea.
Good luck w/ your first day!

Oh yeah, and don't worry about sleep. Just relax and even if you aren't asleep, you are resting. The more you worry about not sleeping, the harder it is to sleep!

If you get into a very hot bath (or hot tub) for about 15 minutes and raise your body temperature, when you get out, your body temperature will naturally dip, and within 20 minutes you should begin to feel drowsy. If you fight this off, you could be up all evening and never notice it again, like many people do all the time, but if you go with that drowsy feeling and lie down and try to sleep, it should work every time.

Cut down on caffeine. It is in sodas and also chocolate. Also don't nap during the day. If you can tolerate it, you might try 1/2 of a tylenol p.m. (a whole one seems to make me too drowsy the next day.

First thing is to shut down the computer.......LOL
But really. When you go in your room to go to sleep, turn off all the lights, tv, music, no reading.........do not give yourself anything to distract you from going to sleep.

To many people turn the tv or radio on when they go to bed and say they need it to sleep.
Fact is that they are a distraction and it takes twice as long for you to fall asleep.

Turn over in your bed, snuggle your pillow and go to sleep.

Do you read? If so, read while in bed. I read before going to bed everynight and it really helps.
