It means "faith" is being certain of the promise of God to restore us to Life and that we're convinced of the things told to us that we'll receive even though we're not yet able to see them.

Hebrews 11:1 says Now faith is the substances of things hoped for, the evidenence of thing not seen........... Verse 1 is not so much a definition of what faith is as it is a description of what faith does, two truth concerning it activity are stated here. First faith provides substance. That is what 11:1 means

What is faith? The apostle Paul wrote: “Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.” (Hebrews 11:1) Our faith makes us sure that everything God promises in his Word is as good as done. It is as though we possessed a deed proving that we own certain property. Faith is also “the evident demonstration,” or evidence for conviction, regarding unseen things. Our mental perception and heart appreciation convince us that such things are real, although we have not seen them.—2Â Corinthians 5:7
One dictionary defines faith as “firm belief in something for which there is no proof.” Far from supporting that idea, however, the Bible stresses just the opposite. Faith is based on facts, on realities, on truth. The Scriptures say: “Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.” (Hebrews 11:1) A person having faith has a guarantee that everything promised by God is as good as fulfilled. So strong is the convincing proof of unseen realities that faith is said to be equivalent to that evidence.

very simple. Life is a journey where YHVH is seeing where your heart is. If it were all obvious and simple, of course people would go along. But this journey is about soul tests - and as the verse and the ones that follow explain, Faith in the things you can't obviously see from things right in front of your face (material - not spiritual) that end up coming to be in both the physical and spiritual sense is the gift of recognition.

Faith can work in two ways for good or evil.
If you have faith you are instinctively following a path which you are hoping will lead in the right direction and even though we cannot see with our eyes for proof we believe.
You dont need to see with your eyes - you just know in your soul.

The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It's our handle on what we can't see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.

Faith is vitally important in the life of the Christian. It is by faith that you are saved; you are justified; cleansed, and look forward to the return of Jesus. Faith is where you please God, admit your dependence upon Him, and continually seek to rely upon Him and His grace. I would like to close by asking you these question: "What has faith changed in your life? What are faith’s evidences in your life? Is faith growing in your life.
