If you look at Matthew 26:7 & Mark 14:3, Jesus' head is anointed. In Luke 7:37-38 & John 12:3, Jesus' feet are anointed. It seems that all of the mentioned verses are different accounts of Jesus's anointing in Bethany.
Jesus was anointed with an expensive perfume from a beautiful alabaster jar. It was made of essence of nard or pure nard, depending on which translation of the Bible you read.

Mir, not sure of the spelling but it was very expensive in those times and washing and anointing the feet was considered respectful.
Are you thinking of the woman servant who washed Jesus' feet with her tears and dried them with her hair and anointed them with the oil?
