She seems to be in good health & other than really liking to be brushed, she seems content & comfortable. It's like she's lost her vocal cords. She used to meow normally. Now she very seldom even trys and then it's mostly just acting out a meow.

If she doesn't act like she is in pain or hurting I wouldn't worry to much about it. Did she just stop overnight or did it happen slowly? If it was slowly it could be a change due to her aging.

If she isn't showing any abnormalities health wise, then I would say don't worry. A lot might have to do with how old she is getting. I can't say because I don't know the age of your cat. I have 4 cats, the oldest is still relatively loud, but the next oldest (who used to be fairly loud) now has high pitched meows or a silent opening and closing of her mouth. She's perfectly fine, it just seems to be a progression over time for some cats. If you are really very worried, then you could always take her to the vet.

One of my cats has always (since I've had her, since she was about 5 years old) had a scratchy meow. Now, about 7 years later, she can't really meow at all...she just 'mouths' the words. She's always had some allergies that I believe are to blame, so maybe your cat has developed some allergies or has a kitty cold. I would take her to the vet to be checked. Good luck.

My cat is the same way. When she was a kitten she got her neck caught in a soccer net and we had to rush her to the vet. She was okay though. Ever since she doesn't meow. She makes "Mit Mit" noise occasionally. We actually call her Mit mit sometimes.

I would just make sure she's okay though, is she eating and breathing okay? I would just be worried there's something stuck in there, you know? Maybe if you take her in for a check up or her shots sometime you can mention it to them then.

My cat Kinsey lost his meow and I thought I would never hear his constant complaining and comments on everything again.

He got his voice back in a few days and continues at age 14 to meow at me whenever he gets the chance!

It might be nothing: My oldest cat used to meow much more loudly than she does now. She still has full use of her vocal cords when she wants them!

If it really has you concerned, ask a vet to check.

My cat is 10, and she sometimes gets a scratchy meow like that, i think its just them getting old..make sure she is hydrated, sometimes my cat does it when shes thirsty.
