take a shower at night and put your hair in several braids. sleep on it, take them out in the morning, and you should have wavy hair.

i also suggest either condtioning or putting some type of smoothing/moisturizing product before you braid/sleep on it to protect you hair from damage.

If your hair is straight the curling products aren't going to do anything for your hair. They're designed to make curly/wavy hair look nicer.

While your hair is wet/damp put some pin curls in it or do braids. There used to be this thing called perm for a day (not sure if they still have it??). The were these U shaped rods & you put your hair on them in a figure 8 pattern & it looked like you got a perm. It washed out once you wet your hair, there were no chemicals just the rods & they were easy to sleep on.

braid your hair & then sleep on it & undo them in the morning(it is so pretty), use any curl boosters (they work like a charm), u can pin your hair up and rollors & then lightly spray them and u can also put some hair dryer heat on it to really secure them, curling iron(i know you dont want to use it but there are conditions and gels that you put in your hair that prevent them from burning), or you can do my number 1 favorite..
what u have to do--
1. take a shower or find a way to wet ur hair
2. scrunche your hair ( take a few inches thick of hair and scrunch them until you reach you scalp)
3. add hair gel......get it all around the scruched curls
4. add hairsray..

....it will have air hit it and you will be good to go...it is casual but elegent, u should try it!!!
