I'm going to wade in and say that yes world peace could overtake the arms business. We need to do a few things first to achieve that.
1) Eliminate all religions that believe they are "the one true religion with the one true god." Too many people die proving their imaginary friend is better than the other "One true religion's one true god."
2) Spread the greatest poverty relieving agent ever, growth. Growth requires capital and trade. Global free trade will allow countries to access any market that will buy their wares. Capital investment is almost the same as a free loan to build income streams with, all you need is skilled labour. Skilled labour requires education, good democracy requires education. If people are doing well personally and can aquire what they need through simple trade avenues, they'll pursue that route. Where is the motivation to fight for something if you can simply buy it?
3) Global responsibilty in all citizens. Again this requires education and understanding. It might also require the western world to re-evaluate current lifestyles. China has an economic growth rate that is allowing for an unprecedented level of personal economic freedom. Why shouldn't they desire the products and lifestyles portrayed by western media? How can we ask them to deny themselves such pleasures when we ourselves cannot?
If you want world peace support a left-winger for 1, a right-winger for 2 and a green for 3. I guess if the fighting could stop in politics this would be easy.

No, there cannot.
I do believe that people actually believe in world peace. It isn't something to be easily gained. It needs more people with the awareness that you exhibit in your question.
World peace will not be acheived as long as business looks to benefit from military violence or the threat of military violence. And, yes, it is a downward filtering process. Weapons producers need a demand for their product, so they lobby and push it on politicians. This "War on Terror" is a manifestation of a political link in action, keeping the people in fear and producing the "demand" for war...
Thanks for wording that so succinctly.

It would be nice of the UN security council passed a resolution that when ever an arm (bomb/rifle/bullet/tank/plane/boat/sub) is sold there is a UN flat tax tapped onto the arms deals price and it would go to fund all of the humanitarian side of the equation. In this case it would be too expensive to have wars as not only would a nation have to pay for its killing but for the suffering endured for the act. :) The better the weapon the more expensive the tax. Just a thought and it beats the whole turn the planet into one big corporation idea.

we just need to treat the cause rather than the symptoms. Find out why there is such a big demand for arms, and solve the problem. Easier said than done in this crazy world, but it's a start. Cancel third world debt and help improve poor people's lives.

expensive Farah, no matter if it truly is in uncomplicated words an theory now it is going to grow to be a danger for the destiny. i do no longer imagine that it is merely an theory because there are a range of communities in the international - even on the prompt - that stay in peace. Many will say that humanity has no longer yet reached a state the position it lives at its maximum actual skill. yet there are a range of human beings which have self assurance that they stay very on the point of this suited too. Human history is rather present day in the approach existence in the international - in case you got here in uncomplicated words a million years in the past you may want to have got here across no body yet merely organic international and formerly that the human species grow to be in uncomplicated words a danger. So it form of feels to me that what starts off as an theory with danger it would want to - given time - eventuate on a international scale. the difficulty we see round us can be a level of transition which continually marks the dynamics replace. As persons we may be able to in uncomplicated words attempt to artwork for peace popular - because the vegetables say; to imagine globally and act domestically, if we opt to regulate the international we stay in. i imagine that there is something in that announcing. i imagine Peace in the international is an rather sturdy danger inspite of if it would want to no longer be reached in my existence time or yours. Peace

it will never happen, we cannot live in peace, its a nice idea but we have been having wars with each other since man first walked the earth. because we cannot agree to disagree on anything and if we did agree we would probably agree to have a war about it. if you took all the military equipment away we would still throw stones at each other

War occurred long before arms dealers. War will always occur because men must try to dominate one another. Genghis Khan did not have a arms dealer - so "people" who believe a Democrat or anyone else can bring world peace is a fool looking for a pie in the sky. It is not coming & never has.

Arms dealers are a result of war, not a cause of it.
Where there is a market demand, somebody will meet it, where it be arms, pornography, or anything else. If there was no demand, there would be no market and no dealers.
