No it's not. It's not fair that we pay for their education, their health, their welfare, and all else we are paying for. We pay to live here in the USA - why shouldn't they? Their kids use the school system - fine. They should pay for their kids to use the school system then. If they are illegal, and cannot prove that they belong here, then they should have to pay "tuition" for enrolling each child in a public or private school. There is nothing in the US that guarantees "free" education. Education is not "free". We pay taxes for our kids to go to school. So they are not paying those taxes? Well, then they should pay a tuition when they enroll their children each year in school. If they want to live in our country and use our system, they need to pay for our system, just like we do. That is all anyone is asking for. If they can do that, then maybe I might be able to change my mind. But I am pretty hard-lined on them having to go.

Why do you say illegals get a free education? I mean they pay rent or own a home? Where do you think the money comes from? Property taxes and yes, even if you rent you pay into those taxes because the landlord figures that cost into the rent...

BTW, I don't have children in publics schools and when my son was in school, he was in a private school, would you please pay me back all the money I contributed to pay for your kids education?

I still had to pay my property taxes to support public schools and continue to this day....Please don't ask such questions unless you have a clue?

I think all people in this country and in any democratic country should be allowed to have an education as anyone else has one. The parents of those illegal kids pay taxes too, so why not give them an education too?

You have to think both sides of this problem, not just make everything worst :)

No, it drains the funds for our own children who are getting a substandard education in border states and states where illegals concentrate. It is unfair because we pay to subsidize them when they shouldn't even be here. It is unfair because most of the money for education is then spent on expensive ESL programs turning their children bilingual when there is no funding to teach our children languages in the primary years. And it is unfair because due to the overcrowding of the schools and lack of funding by the illegals, our own children's' education is degraded.

You shouldn't be too mad about K-12 grade education, but some states allow illegal immigrants to sign up as in-state students for college.

That should make you mad because that means they are taking grants and scholarships away from other college students. Grants and scholarships are limited, and aren't available to all students. If these illegal immigrants are considered a minority, low income or have children they get priority over other students. At least in my state they do. I know students that couldn't afford books, and couldn't get financial aid because the funds ran out. It isn't right.

I think Americans and green card holders should have priority when it comes to college.

BTW- Illegal immigrants are of all nationalities.

hell no it isn't. I want my money going to kids here who should be here. not some kid who is an illegal immigrant. I hate the fact that my tax money is going to support illegal immigrants, and that they're even considering a pardon for those who entered the US illegally. That's a slap in the face for all those who waited for so long and went through the process and had to deal with the waiting and the uncertainty and everything. *I am particularly passionate about illegal immigration because my ex was from Korea . His mother is just now being let into the US after years of waiting*

I'm 43yo & single with no kids. I became a US citizen in 2004 - I've been paying for other people's kids to go to school.

Ya know what - COOL ! I don't care if they're children of liilegal immigrants or even illegal themselves. One day, they may be my neurosurgeon about to remove a tumor form my brain, or just my "humble" doctor helping me deal with old age, living alone - I want them to get the best education possible, so that my treatment can be the best.

No. How would you like to be in my shoes. Not only do I also pay for their education, but I have to pay for your kids, and then I have to send mine to private school because the public schools here are the worst in the nation.

No, it isn't.

However, most "illegals" would be happy to be legal and pay taxes. The US's overly strict policies lead to an excess of "illegals". High fences won't keep them out. An accessible registration would benefit everyone.
