I really don't know. I have been cursed a few times and even had those e-mails people send me that wish misfortune on me if I do not send it to ten other people (I always delete them). Nothing has ever happened that was beyond what all humanity basically experiences. Anyway, it seems that those in the Old and New Testament believed it could. Hence, another aspect of the First of the Ten Commandments.
However, I must make one comment about a statement I read in this about how black magic can be turned or used for a good. It is arrogant to think that the one casitng spells or curses is in control and has the power to change the nature of evil from bad to good. We have no power to do this and neither does the incantations used. If the person who answered this way can explain, I'd be interested. Because if they believe they can actually do this, that person would unconsciously make themselves out to be a god or goddess.

Magic, like love is not a color and can not be seen (except in action). Yet both can alter your perceptions and your life.

Magic, like a hammer is just a tool, it is how it is used that makes the difference.

Do you feel that someone is trying to "ruin" you? or are you wanting to do the "ruining"? Either way, you should do some research before it gets too deep.

Dabbling in Black Magic can open portals and can be very harmful to the spirit.

There is a lot in the spiritual world we dont understand and unless you know how to guard yourself against evil it is not worth the risk.

There are a lot better ways to entertain yourself than delving into things you know nothing about.

If you insist on looking into black magic further, guard yourself with a belief in God, Good, Love and imagine yourself surrounded by this light for the rest of your life. I can say no more, other than there are many poor souls in mental assylums world wide who have not heeded the advice and who will live their life out in these institutions because of their curiosity.

Enjoy your life - there is enough Evil in the world at the moment without opening further portals for Evil to enter through.

The intent of the caster is what makes it "black" or "white"; "good" or "bad". In the hands of someone who has no compunction about using the tool to ruin someone - yes, it can be extremely harmful.
