If you ask a guy if he wants to go to dinner with you and he says that he can't because he has a lot of work to do, how do you know if he really has work or if he just doesn't want to go to dinner with you? i didn't want to pressure him so i just said, ok, maybe another night, rather than point out that he has to eat dinner anyway and suggest a quicker option rather than a more leisurely dinner.

Ok, here is an answer from a guy that has been there.. I was dating this girl and frequently she would get all emotional and needy when I told her I was busy. It was a big turn off and frankly, it annoyed me. I really was busy. My first priority was my education and other parts of my life. She could have been comforting with her love and let me do what I needed and wanted to do instead of pressuring me to spend time with her. Well it pushed me away and I finally broke up with her. So my guess? He's busy just like I was.

A guy who is interested will drop everything to go out with dinner with you regardless of how busy he is.
There's really no such thing as being too busy for someone you're interested in.

He's not interested. If he couldn't eat with you that night and he was interested he would have suggested a rain check, a drink after work, lunch the following day, a quick coffee at Starbucks ... the list goes on. Let him ask you if he wants to pursue it.

He may be really busy, but know that you put yourself out there once already. If he didn't respond optimistically the first time, I'd be hesitant to make a second request. He knows that you want to hang out, so technically, the ball is in his court.

Hanging out with someone should never be difficult, whether busy or not, if you want to spend time with someone you make the time.

Good luck!

Trying being busy when he wants you to do something next time ...sounds like he's just not interested if he was he would make an effort to be with you.

if you decide to be brave enough to ask him to dinner again, maybe you can offer to come over to his place and cook him dinner or invite him over to your place for dinner and maybe offer to help him with his work.
note** if he has another excuse, chances are he is not interested.
