The body must have a pH balance at 7.4. Any deviation from this set point could cause a cascade of problems. For one, an acidic pH could denature the proteins traveling in the blood. For example, hemoglobin would unravel which would not allow for sufficient oxygen transport to body tissues. This obviously leads to hypoxia.

On the other hand, acidity in the Small Intestine is primed at around 3. The advantages here are the activation of zymogens for digestion. When the pH becomes to acidic, calcium is released as a buffer.

first of all you have to know that the pH of the blood is 7.4
if the pH will decrease you have acidosis. if the pH increase you have alkalosis.
you should know also that the protein inside the body function mostly at a given pH which is the normal pH of 7.4
hence any variation of the pH the proteins will not be able to act normally. biochemically speaking a change in pH will induce a change in the 3D conformation of proteins and lead to a process called denaturation. this is the reason why any change in the pH will lead to dangerous consequences...

How do you denature proteins? Acid/Base
What happens if your bodies proteins get denatured? Sick/Die
What are Acids/Bases? Ions (to some degree)
What happens if too many ions of one type? Change the balance of other ions (Na, K, Cl, HCO3, etc)
What happens if the ions change? Fluid shifts
Etc.
This should help (at least with the comprehensive part)
