I'm a novice to working out and weight training; however, I do know some very powerful exercises for your lower body.
1. Squats -- These work all the major leg muscles (a compound exercise) and your lower back. After doing twenty of these, even without weights, you'll be ready to quit -- which lets you know how good of an exercise this really is.
2. Deadlifts -- Lifting a barbell, keeping your legs straight. Very hard to do with a lot of weight -- showing you, again, how good of an exercise it is.
3. Leg Press -- Most gyms have this machine -- very good for working your legs and butt.
4. Hamstring Curl -- Works the back of your legs, along with your butt.
5. Calve Raises -- These will make you feel a burn very fast, but inflamed calves look great on anyone.
6. Quadricep Leg Extensions -- These will definitely help you.
7. Mountain climbing -- Find a place in your city, or somewhere close by, with hills or trails. Fifteen/thirty minutes of brisk walking/climbing will have your legs burning; if you eat right afterwards you will certainly build some powerful muscles -- that will show.

Absolutely friend! KICK BOXING. That's it in a nutshell. Go to your local video store and check one out. There are several good ones out there. You will end up buying one for sure. The best thing about kick boxing? It not only concentrates on your lower body, but, since your working those big muscles, it has an all over body performance. You will be lower/lean before you know it!Hope this helps you out.

First of all, you can't specifiy WHERE you loose weight by working out a certain area. Women tend to gain weight just where you describred, and men tend to gain it all in the midsection (beer belly). If your looking to lose weight, focus on diet and cardio, but strength training is also very important and helpful. If your just a little thick, you should be pretty free to do whatever, but if you are seriously over weight, you might consider low impact until you get your weight down a little. Things like eliptical, bike, or water aerobics are all really good places to start.

Sounds like you need some cardio, to work the love handles off, and then it will firm up the other areas. This will be any of these activities for a minimum of 30 minutes to start: treadmill, walking fast, stationary bike, aerobics, kickboxing, tae bo, anything to make you move and keep you moving!
