It would be expensive, but if you don't take a stand, and legalize them, what is to stop others from doing the same thing?? What we are telling them is "take the chance. . . in a few years, when we are sick of this again, we will just make you legal."
The cost of deporting them would be a fraction of what it IS costing us to support them medically, and put their children through our education system (which they are not paying for, because that is paid for with TAX DOLLARS). Yes - it would be a substantial cost to deport them. But we would be making up the money elsewhere. Our education system - which is strapped right now and classes are oversized - would be smaller, making it possible to teach children better because there would be more one on one time. And we would not have to pay higher hospital bills and insurance premiums to cover the cost of an illegal immigrant that is in need of medical attention and has no insurance and no means to pay the bill. We would also not have to cover the illegal immigrants that use our welfare system (yes - they are there) because they can't work (due to health issues or unable to speak the language or unable to find work they are qualified for). There are so many more pros to spending the money and sending them out of the country than allowing them to stay, or better yet - just looking the other way and making them all legal. That will not fix a darn thing. It will only make the problem worse. I want it fixed. Let's send the message now that you need to follow the law to be in this country. I think it only fair. After all, American citizens and legal immigrants pay to be in this country - whether you like it or not. They are ripping us off.

It cost Los Angeles alone $1 billion dollars to provide services for illegal aliens, just last year. The state of California spent $10.5 billion.

As I understand the numbers, we'd be economically ahead in 2 years if all the illegals in California were deported.
There are arguments for amnesty of screened illegals already present so long as they can't also bring in family, but the cost issue does not come out on your side.
Give me real border security and interior enforcement, dismantle both the BENEFIT and employment magnets drawing them here, and give me limited immigration protective of our schools and services, going forward, and I'd be OK with screened amnesty. However, it is because of the people involved who have been let to get so comfortable with our insane 'sanctuary' policies and schizophrenic laws, not because of cost.

Have you ever wonder how many illegal immigrants had died to come over the US border?
Have you every wonder how much money they contribute to social security?
Have you ever wonder how much money they contribute to this country? Much more than what they take.
Just keep wondering and you will get it right. Stop being an ignorant and let the government do whatever they decide to.
If you want to make an important decision about immigration, go and become a US Senator.
...and I agree with: yars232c
Good luck and I bet no one will vote for you :)

It wouldn't be so expensive if you didn't think you had to chauffeur them out in their own Lincoln Town Car or Cadillac, or some yacht. They got here on "economy class", and we can send them back on the same "economy class". And they haven't been paying taxes anyway (wake up!!!!) so what do I worry about our country's tax base from people who will cost us 10 times in social services in every walk of life than they will ever contribute in taxes. You must be a liberal/democrat! God Bless you. And God Help us.

Way less that it costs to leave them here. 30% of federal prisoners are illegal aliens. Some hospitals spend a large % of their operating costs treating illegals who can't pay.
Plus, they send a % of their pay home, draining our country.
If we make them all legal, they will suddenly expect minimum wage and benefits, and they will get them. That will create a new vacuum in the lower end which will suck in more illegals.
But don't worry; Bush doesn't want to stop the illegals. He has mega-dragged his feet on this issue and is now prosecuting two very effective agents because they shot at a fleeing illegal who had what looked like a gun in his hands and a van full of 800 lb. of marijuana. They didn't hit him, either.

well not every illegal comes to the U.S. and says well im going on welfare, no they come here to work and make money, the only thing they dont have to do is pay taxes. i say if your illegal you should get some of the same rights as americans, not be able to go on welfare and pay as much as americans but they should also be able to work in any job that will hire them, and they shouldnt be allowed to vote since there illegal unless they want to get more rights or be on welfare then they could/should become u.s. Citizens.

Jet fuel????
Heck let the illegals from Mexico..walk back..the same way they walked in....or give them a one way ticket on a Greyhound Bus..
Why reward law breakers?
If I am caught speeding...I must pay the fine..obey the law, as I should...so why reward these illegal aliens..with a chance at citizenship....sorry...I do not care how hard they work..come here legally, or don't come at all.

It would cost nothing. Once employers sanctions start they will not be able to get American jobs and will return of their own accord. all of the studies project huge savings and long term economic growth.
