a crossed check deposits the money directly to the savings/checking account of the addressee. Meanwhile, a normal check which is not crossed out can be encashed directly from the teller. it is safer to cross your check so that you know that your payment is going directly to the person intended. a holder of a non-crossed check can just encash it, without any security.

crossed cheque can not paid across the counter and in can be credited to the a/c only. normal cheque can be paid through counter.
