PROOF
When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)
When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)

Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)

Killing at Jericho
When the people heard the sound of the horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the city from every side and captured it. They completely destroyed everything in it – men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep, donkeys – everything. (Joshua 6:20-21 NLT)

"You are my battle-ax and sword," says the LORD. "With you I will shatter nations and destroy many kingdoms. With you I will shatter armies, destroying the horse and rider, the chariot and charioteer. With you I will shatter men and women, old people and children, young men and maidens. With you I will shatter shepherds and flocks, farmers and oxen, captains and rulers. "As you watch, I will repay Babylon and the people of Babylonia for all the wrong they have done to my people in Jerusalem," says the LORD. "Look, O mighty mountain, destroyer of the earth! I am your enemy," says the LORD. "I will raise my fist against you, to roll you down from the heights. When I am finished, you will be nothing but a heap of rubble. You will be desolate forever. Even your stones will never again be used for building. You will be completely wiped out," says the LORD. (Jeremiah 51:20-26)

Slaves, shepards, homophobia, incest... Was there anything else of consequence to the Hebrew people of 2000 years past?! Their idiot descendents of today blindly follow these classics of centuries past.

do you even realize how stupid you sound?
I mean seriously. First of all these items are NO LONGER practiced in the modern world. 2000 yrs ago, sure maybe that was a different story. Its HISTORY, I'm pretty sure you were never sold into slavery were you?
2nd of all this is all subjective to the translation. What 1 person (ie.. religion believes it to mean, another may have a completely different view)
3rd. It was written OVER 2000 yrs ago, in Aramaic, translated and re written millions of times. So what it could have originally said, was something not even close to the current translation.
4th Almost all religions at one point or another believed women to be property. Even the Non-religions!! We were sold/traded for property and livestock.
5th Religion is MAN MADE, therefore again, subject to interpretation.
6th Again, what is it you are trying to accomplish? This is the 2nd ranting of yours I've read tonight. Are you just trying to get everybody fired up. Seems like to me the extremist views are coming from you!!
GET OVER YOURSELF. Odds are you don't give a damn about women or womens right, or abortion clinics or anything else you are ranting about. You just want to be heard, for some unknown reason.

First of all, Jesus did not advocate any of the negative things you have listed. There are many passages in the Old Testament that we do not understand and thus are unable to comment on with any authority. Even the great Rev. Billy Graham admits he does not understand it all.
The new testament is somewhat easier and speaks to gentiles as well as jews. In fact most of Paul's writings were to non-jews. The most prevalent ideas concern love, forgiveness, the Golden Rule, etc. Why you would find fault with that is perplexing.
God is Love. Not hate. There are many things being done in God's Name that He would not endorse. Jesus died for us. To deliverer us from the sentence of death, which we deserved because of our sinful nature. He was the Ultimate Sacrifice! So, if you are sincere in your convictions then study what Jesus said in the context of His Words and circumstances at the time.

Boy, you make a good point.
Jesus was not in favor of many of the Laws of Moses.
That Timothy part is really disturbing.
This is probably what made American Christians feel good about keeping black slaves.
Jesus was a liberal and the liberalization of the Religion and the Bible was one of his ministries and Peter, Paul and John and also Timothy, didn't realizie that.
Most Christians here will probalby side step this issue and cite other passages and well they should and I don't really have any.
I don't take the Bible literally, if one does then WOMEN NEED TO SHUT UP IN CHURCH, for that is in the New Testiment.
I don't think Jesus favored that concept.
Jesus took counsil and the gifts of women.
I think he respected them.
I think he would approve of women minsters today.
One of the "seconds" in command of the English church, you know, is BLACK.
Jews, you know, with OUT accepting Jesus have made many, if not most of the changes to their Religion in the Reformist Jewish faith.
They no longer take out an eye for an eye.
They don't stone sinners at the city gate.
Your point here is really well researched and one of the best questions I've seen.
You sound like you're non-christian or a skeptic, but you've read the bible.
We see the gist of changese here with people talking of Gay rights, because taht is also forbidden or frown upon in the bible.
Least we not forget burning of witches.
Christianity is not all Fundamentalist or ultra orthodox, it is sometimes radical or liberal.
The question is how far to take it. Do we allow pre-marital sex.
Do you honestly want to tell your 16 year old son go out and screw girls!
Do you honestly want to tell your 16 year old daughter, spread your legs for a booy and learn what life is about.
Do we also want to embrace liars, cheaters, theives, muders, rapists.
Rape was also covered in the Bible and it says the father can either demand payment of a fixed amount or marriage to the girl. Jesus said Forgive and Forget. Love your Enemy the Most.
These are quandaries.
Mabye God wants US to sort them out.
It's about RIGHT and WRONG and maybe GOD wants to see if we've learned what truly is RIGHT and what truly is WRONG.
What is talked about in your passages is beating a slave to death on the spot, vs beating a slave half to death.
Both are wrong.
However, if someone tries to RAPE you do you stop them? Do you beat them to death or half to death?
A lot depends on the crime.
If a slave tries to kill you even though you treat the slave reasonably well, what do you do? Allow them to live so they kill you again.
We might face a war with the Muslims, who want WORLD ISLAM. Do we let some live or do we do genocide?
If we let them live they may come back to fight us again in 500 years when their numbers increase.
In Romania, after the fall of the Soviet Union, they wanted to Outlaw the Communist party, but they realized THAT ACT would make them as BAD as the Communists. so they didn't do that.
They DID however, kill thier Communist Leader and HIS WIFE!
What did his Wife do. She wasn't a leader!
She went along with her husband. That gives her a death sentence!
These are realities.
We are reactinaries.
YOUR 8 year old daughter or son gets gang raped by people. WHAT DO YOU DO!
Do you Forgive and Forget.
In a time when people sold people into slavery, we have to think like those people.
This is not an aswer and we certainly don't sell into slavery if we are good people, but today some people do!
In Asian, the Baltic regions, South America men DO sell their 12 or 14 year old daughters into sexual slavery so they can live.
Maybe it would be more fair if they beat the PERSON WHO SOLD THE SLAVE to death or nearly to death, if the slave displeases them
It's hard to say.
Since God took the Jews out of Slavery, out of Bondage then we must assume that God didn't approve of slavery.
Remember Jon Binet, the liittle 6 year old who dressed up like a woman or harlot.
Was she a slave of her parents whishes and whims?
She ended up dead.
Parents who put their kids into Cheer Leading contents, Miss America, Miss Universe. Are those kids SLAVES!
In Russia 15 year old girls who train for ballet or gymastics are sometimes hit with a stick, maybe not hard, but that's how the Russians train them!
They do better than Americans, but is this slavery and is this mistreament.
You point is very well taken.
Slavery is wrong is my only answer.
No one should contract themselves or others as slaves.
We can accept the roles of paid Servants, who can quit if they don't like the job or the people, but not slaves!
Someone brought a case of an Atheist girl who refused to pray before a basketball game. That is slavery. Forcing someone to pray is slavery.
Slavery is wrong. If God thinks otherwise then I guess God will have to throw me into the lake of fire for my views.

Excuse me these are not pagan ideas.
This is what a Patrical society has taught us about how to treat females. In a purely Matrical society the same things were done to men by females.
It is the Patrical Religious church that is keeping this treatment going. By preaching more from the OLD TESTAMENT than the NEW.

Look, you've only mentioned one quote from the New Testament; and that's Timothy telling how to serve one's master with dignity and integrity..........Thank God our only "Master" is the God in 3 parts, (which is God- the Father,God -the Son and God -the Holy Spirit.)............
All the abuse and hatred are the qualities which Christ taught against. ....In the old days slavery was an economic way of life..... Loving God with our heart, mind & soul AND serving as we ourselves would want to be served is the Bible's "GOOD NEWS."....Those who are free now can't lose......(But those who cannot understand God's LOVE and who are not repentant still appear to be as "filthy rags" before God................)

Look at the times.............these verses were written when slavery was a common practice.
The New Testament verses refer not to whether slavery is right or wrong, but to how a Christian slave should behave and honor his owner.
Yes I'm a Christian, and I'm proud of that.

what you are using as proof is is from the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) those are not necessarily Christian teachings, they also teach eye for and eye and tooth for a tooth, Jesus negates that, teaching to love your neighbor as I have loved you. Basically what I'm saying is that you should actually study the Bible, not just read it before accusing entire peoples of wrongdoing.
