I have a lot of original receipes that I have created over the years. I have many old receipe books that I started cooking from when I was a teenager in the 1960's. Should I make a small cookbook of my own receipes or sell them one by one on E-bay?

Can you patent a recipe?

I can help you with your question about protecting your recipes.

You can do this at the US Copyright Office – see the last 2 links in the source box. The application is fairly simple & the cost is $45 per application.

Despite what others state, a "poor man's" copyright is NOT the same as registering it. Here's what the US Copyright Office has to say:

"The practice of sending a copy of your own work to yourself is sometimes called a 'poor man’s copyright.' There is no provision in the copyright law regarding any such type of protection, and it is not a substitute for registration."

PLEASE READ what the US Copyright Office has to say about recipes BEFORE you file; you may not want to file for a copyright, depending on your plans. Here's the link: http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl122.html -- US Copyright Flyer regarding Recipes

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

I suggest you have it patent first as your very own recipe, And certainly you could create a cook book and sell it why not. I wish you all the best. I am sure you will have great success
