I was wondering if anyone knows if a raw food diet is actually good for a dog or if its all hype. Also is it suitable for a Chihuahua?

A raw diet is fine for dogs of any size, however before attempting to feed a raw diet you need to research it thoroughly and learn how to do it properly. You need to make sure the dog will be getting the right amount of nutrition.

Raw diets take a lot of work. Innova brand dog food is a dry dog food that is the closest food you can get to a raw diet without actually being raw. It's full of veggies, cottage cheese and such and is really good for your dog. I have four chihuahua's and I have had them on Innova for sometime now. Their coats are shinier and softer then ever. They are all the correct weight now and are full of energy. They eat less because it's a better quality food with less fillers which also means they poop less. It's a great dog food. Be careful though there a few different types of Innova, I first tried Innova Evo (it's in a silver bag) my dogs didn't like it because it has a lot of fish in it, I reccommend it to people who have dogs such as alaskan malamutes and such. The one I finally used was just Innova (in a green bag). It's smaller triangle shaped pieces and they have no problem chewing it. My smallest chi is 3.5 pds so it's even small enough for her. You can get it at pet stores or try online if you can't find it at www.naturapet.com

You are on the right track. Yes raw food is the only food that should be fed to your animals. Any food that is processed or manufactured is a bad idea for any diet. They only contribute to organ failures, skin allergies, etc... I feed mine on organic chicken mince, to this I will add vegetables like, grated carrot, brussel sprouts (pre-cooked), pumpkin and or sweet potato, raw egg yolk, brown rice, onion, garlic, corn, peas, beans, lettuce, and they love fruit like raw avocado (only give these occasionally as they are terribly fattening), sometimes I will add apple. No it is not hype, I believe that if you give your dog, as you would a human, a proper diet now, they will not encounter the health problems and cost you an arm and a leg later on. Oh, don't forget to give raw bones as well. All the best.

From what I just searched for on the Internet, there seems to be a lot of support for this type of diet. However, I was unable to find an adequate website to provide to you. Most of the websites were advertising delivery of their products to your house. I would check with your vet before changing your dog's diet so that it won't get sick.

I have read about it. It got too deep for me. It is a lot of work too. My dog would not eat it anyway. I feed mine dry Purina chow, which he doesn't want either. He eats the wet food called Caesar and table food. He's happy.
I wouldn't think for your little guy it would be worth it. Ask your Vet...

These types of dogs are actually appetizers for other dogs. I mean, really.....the yapping must stop somewhere.....Taco Bell really played this card too much.

I sincerely hope this helps.
