Gin is made from ten different Herbs and botanical
Angelica, Coriander, Grains of Paradise, Almonds, Lemon, Liquorice, Juniper Berries, Cassia Bark, Orris and Cubeb Berries
The uniqueness from different distillers occurs during the distilling process. If you favour a particular brand stick with it or experiment with others there are even flavoured gin becoming available. I like Tanqueray No Ten or Van Gogh, they're distinctively mild flavoured

Gin is actually something that is very taste driven. Gin is a neutral spirit like vodka with aromatic flavors infused into it. All gin has juniper berries in it - the name gin comes from a word for juniper - but after that they all taste pretty different. People who really like gin will have a favorite. My favorite gin for example is Hendricks - it actually has cucumber, citrus peels and roses in the infusion!
The most important thing is to look for a good quality gin. If you stick to quality brands like Beefeater, Tanqueray or Bombay you will probably find one you like. But again it is such a matter of taste. I love gin martinis, but not if they are made with regular Beefeater or Tanqueray. I like Beefeater Wet and Tanqueray Ten, though. And I prefer regular Bombay to Bombay Sapphire.
So my answer to your question - the best gin is the one YOU like best!

Depends on how you are going to drink it. I prefer Beefeaters with tonic but I like Bombay Sapphire on the rocks.

Plymouth, but Tanqueray No. 10 is good, too.
New players in the market that are also good would be Magellan and Blackwood.

Tanqueray and some sprite. It's just as good as Jack & Coke but completley different.
