k so I'm looking at a 07 hondai sonata, and also a older car it's a ford suv, I think it's a focus or something anyway....my question is, I want my payments to be reasonable, but I also want to be sure I get a car that's going to last me a decent amount of time. Can anyone give me good ideas on what kind of car, and what to look for?
Thanks so much....!

Well, i have always heard that toyota's and honda's get good gas milage. You could go with a 4 cylinder, manual. If you don't know how to drive a stick then go with an automatic. Either way, if you want it to last a while then just drive it like grandma would. If you get regular maintnance on it, then it should last a good while.

Hyundai Sonata is a very nice car. Lots of options for thousands less than the Accord or Camry. They're also built in the US (TN) so our economy benefits too.

But since low payment is a priority, you should look at some of the cheaper sub-compacts such as the Civic, Corolla and Sentra. They're all reliable and have timing chains instead of belts. This is great since belts need to be replaced every 90K miles while the chain will last over 300K miles.

I think you meant the FORD Escape? I would avoid FORDs at all cost, if reliability is important to you. My parents purchased a used FORD and ended up spending $5000 on repairs because everything that could go wrong, did.

Not to long ago I helped my son buy a car and I bought one for my daughter. I test drove a sonata and wasn't really impressed witht the feel of it for the money. I wouldn't even consider a ford focus if your looking for reliability. I'm used to driving a 92 Honda Accord with 250k miles and I love it. It's very comfortable. I bought both kids Honda civics. If I were you I'd look in the paper for a good deal on a Honda civic. 99- 2003. Make sure it runs good and has been taken care of and you can't go wrong.

Both are good cars and I would think that the Hyundai may be cheaper than the Ford... However, considering that you are a girl, I think the Focus is a much smaller and cuter car than the Sonata, though you may beg to differ... Furthermore, the Sonata is a little executive to my taste... The Ford would be much better, since it a small, compact hatchback.... Good luck

If you want a car that is reasonable in price, try buying a slightly used car but one that is not older than 1 year. Second hand cars drop by about 30-40% in price once they roll off the dealership. Plus, most cars will last about 4 to 5 years without requiring major replacements.

Happy hunting!

I bought the new looking Sonata. I got the '06 Sonata LX. Very best car I ever had. Needed some warrantee work. They got me a loaner and fixed me right up. It's the third Hyundai I've had. I think they are wonderful.

buy an older honda civic -- good on gas, reliable, decently priced. don't worry about high mileage ones, they're fully capable of running for 400,000 miles if you do the maintenance.

other options: toyota corolla or camry.

avoid used hyundai's and kia's --- the big 100,000 mile warranty does NOT transfer to second owners. Also, the American vehicles (ford, chevy, chrysler) are all awful as far as reliability is concerned.

As much as I hate to admit it ....... buy a Honda. There really is no better car out there. But if you do. Replace the timing belt every 60-80k miles. They are so reliable that they have a built in flaw. If that belt brakes, it distroys the motor. Forcing to to buy a new Honda.
Buy a Honda and change that belt, you will have the car for 300,000 miles.

Do you advise that it have been given totaled in would of 07? What you typed out says which you automobile have been given totaled in would of 06, months until now you even bought the motor vehicle in November 06. i think of you're making the proper determination via unlikely for a tiny automobile back - they in line with risk extra useful on gas, yet they are dying traps for beneficial. i think of the two the yaris or the mazda3 could be advantageous. i might pick the single that grants you extra useful gas mileage because of fact that gas expenses are so intense. the two autos are in regards to the comparable length and are bigger than the Aveo, so which you would be safter.

Consider the warranty?
Is there any with the used car?

If not, you must weigh the value of the money saved buying used versus risk of car being laid up for repairs at some point and of course the cost of repairs.
