Monogamy is the adherence to one partner for sexual relations.
"I am in a monogamous relationship with my husband, therefore I do not want your phone number."
Polygamous would be more than one sexual partner, like Mormon's would like to practise were it not illegal. They still do practise polygamy, but are now criminals.
And you can put the words in the Wikipedia browser window below your answer/ask window and that will link you to exact definitions. Interesting stuff this monogamy/polygamy, will have to do more field research. ;)

Monogamy is the practice of one man and one woman in marriage. This is the opposite of "polygamy" which is having more than one wife or husband.

It was invented by a 13th century monk named St. Philanderer. This particular Saint was fond of fondue and small goldfish. He could not choose between the two....fondue? Goldfish? So, he made fondue goldfish. This has since been made popularized in many Taco Bell commercials. Because he combined his two favorite things, he called this "monogamy." (greek for "fish fins in colby cheddar.") I sure hope this helps.

a mere myth. Gone the way of the unicorn and the griffin. You hear about it in fairy tales all the time. I've never seen any proof of it. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, mind you. You'd be hard pressed to convince me.

An ancient and, thanks to paternity tests, birth control, condoms and legal abortion, a completely outdated social agreement between two people to remain chaste except for one another, in order to assure paternity, better to provide for children, and stablize society. Also a way for religious leaders to make some money "blessing" the unions for whichever god.

It is the custom or tradition of having only one mate for a period of time. A lot of people believe that it is from the date of your marriage until death.
