I think it sends a bad message.Much like the violent video games.I mean we might as well sit them down in front of the T.V. and put on the Godfather,or Scarface. That's just a subliminal message I choose not to send to my child.Behavior is learned, and to murder is no exception.

Guns are not toys, yet we still must face the reality that toy guns exist. Even if you remove toy guns, children will simulate gun fights & sword fights & knife fights because they see other children doing it & some see it on TV & Video. You can take away all the toy guns, but children will use something else to "play act" in their place! It might be better to teach GUN SAFETY & this way if your child ever does come across something that looks like a gun, they will know NOT to touch it! It is best to always teach children to NEVER touch anything that looks like a gun or knife or sword & to have them TELL AN ADULT ABOUT IT FIRST!

I agree, I have a 2 year old and I don't want him playing with toy guns of any kind...I don't think that kids should be able to play with guns. It may give them the worng ideas

As I had a boy, I thought I'd be anti-gun too. But, you know, the little blessings make a gun out of their thumb and forefinger and shoot everything in sight anyway. So, if they want them, get some cheap plastic ones that don't look at all like real guns (wild colors, for example), and let them play. That stage really doesn't last long.

I am a mother of three and I have to admit I let our kids play with the toy guns we talk about the differences and also have real guns in our home for hunting and our kids are told the purposes for guns and our real guns are in a gun cabinet that they can not access.I have issues with my husband wanting to play like there shooting each other and I have about fussed enough that he has stopped but usually our kids play like they are hunting and yes they know the correct way to hunt and not to waste and kill for no reason the purpose of hunting is to eat them.

I am a parent and a childcare provider.
I do not allow toy guns in my home.
My oldest son went down to his grandparents and came back with a toy gun that one of the boys had given him. Well he knew I didn't like them so I put it in the garbage.
Call me cruel, but my son took it really well. I just explained to him that I don't like guns. That was that.

No way!! Not even water guns. A few years ago Police officers shot and killed a mentally disabled boy for aiming a water gun at them that had been painted black to look like a real gun.

NO..........why would you do that when there are so many other toys out there...anything you can imagine for children is already out there ........children learn through play ....why would that be what we want to teach them

Its funny you ask that because a neighbor of mine gave my daughter a water gun (she is going to be 3 in Sept) I hid it the other day but she found it today and started crying for it. As soon as she turned her back I took it again. I dont want her even pretending to use one, to me okay that she knows what a gun is but not to mimic its use.
Good Luck :-)
