maybe they cannot punish the dogs....but they can certainly punish the owners. Why are these dogs running loose? If they belong to someone report the owners...if they are strays themselves have the local humane society pick them up.

Dog wardens can get them if they are loose at any time you see them call your dog warden or animal control. Dogs are not allowed to roam free. Pitbulls are known to not be very friendly to small furry animals if they were never around them growing up. And if they are lose they obviously have horrible owners and may end up being the bad type of pit b/c of their crappy owners. I would contact animal control people if the police wont do anything. I found a sick and abandoned 5 month olf pitbull and the police just gave me the dog pound # and she had to stay with me until I could get a hold of them. Who ever said punch them in the nose to stop the "lock jaw" thats horrible advice. DONT EVER HIT A DOG that gives them a reason to hurt you. And the lock jaw is a "myth" they have strong jaws but they do not lock, I looked it all up when I found the 5 month old pitbull.

I somewhat have an extremely not hardship-free time believing the canines however a toddler replaced right into a chew toy. canines are mind-blowing at analyzing people. extra suited than any species studied- dolphins, chimps, regardless of. A canines is time-honored with of the version between a man or woman and the different merchandise- residing or not. I agree that maximum pits do not kill that way, yet all of us know not something approximately this pit. maximum canines won't attack toddlers, the two. Who is time-honored with of what this canines replaced into thinking, yet in a legal experience, the canines replaced into the proximate rationalization for the loss of life. a lot of issues could be pronounced with regard to the mummy (and are being pronounced), however the canines is the rationalization the toddler died. that's the reason the propaganda that "all canines could be rehabilitated" and "there are actually not any risky canines, in basic terms negligent people" are risky. specific, the mummy replaced into negligent, yet a canines extra healthful for human society won't kill an toddler in spite of ways negligent the owner. human beings can hardly be blamed for going to the safeguard and adopting a pit blend of indeterminate beginning and bringing it residing house to their companion and teenagers to stay factor with the aid of factor with an toddler. you spot each and every instruct on animal planet praising the virtues of adopting, how pits in simple terms have a foul rap, how they could be a savior with the aid of rehabilitating the damaging, candy creatures. it rather is ridiculous. i don't have little ones, so I somewhat have experience gentle taking of project with safeguard canines. once I somewhat have little ones, my canines would be previous and experienced, and any new canines will come from a breeder who I have confidence and know.

Call animal control they have to pick up dogs that are running loose. It is things like this that give all pit bulls bad names. We who owns pit bulls and keeps them under control hates to hear stories like this because it brings the banning of pits closer. Also pit bulls jaws are no different than any other dogs They don't "lock". Any stray dog is dangerous no matter the breed.

This to all the idiots that think that all pits are bad, first off they get a bad Rep,because there are people out there that train them to be mean.My son has one and she is as sweet as can be and they have a little baby and she climbs all over her and she has never tried to bite her ,yes I feel sorry that the cat was killed and the people that they belong to should have them tied up on a chain, they should never be allowed to run free if they are that mean.Ruby,my sons pit lives with 4 cats and 2 other dogs and 4kids she has never hurt any of them.

I GET SO ANGRY READING SOME OF THE POSTS PEOPLE PUT AS ANSWERS...
PIT BULLS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM, ITS THE ANIMALS OWNERS(THE CAT AND THE DOGS BOTH!), THIS IS WHY THE COPS CANT DO ANYTHING BUT CALL AN ACO.
I GET SO TIRED OF HEARING ABOUT CAT OWNERS WHO JUST LET THEIR CATS RUN WILD AND THEN GET ALL MAD WHEN THE ANIMAL GETS ATTCKED BY A DOG.
PITBULLS ARE TERRIER BREEDS... THEY HAVE A PREY INSTINCT THAT MAKES THEM WANT TO CHASE SMALLER ANIMALS. THIS IS WHY THEY SHOULD BE IN THEIR HOME, ON A LEASH OR IN A PROPERLY SECURED YARD. WHY ARE EITHER OF THESE ANIMALS RUNNING THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE YOU LIVE?
NEXT, TO THE IGNORANT PERSON WHO SAID TO PUNCH THE DOG IN THE FACE, PIT BULLS DO NOT HAVE LOCKING JAWS! IT IS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR THEM TO HAVE LOCKING JAWS, NOT TO MENTION THEY WOULD BE CLASSIFIED AS A DIFFERENT TYPE OF SPECIES IF THEY DID. ALSO, IF YOU DO THAT AND GET CAUGHT YOU WILL BE GUILTY OF ANIMAL ABUSE WHICH IS A FELONY IN SOME STATES.
TO ANOTHER POSTER, PITBULLS CAN BE EXCELLENT PETS, BANNING THEM WILL JUST GIVE FIGHTERS A REASON TO FIND A NEW BREED TO EXPLOIT AND MAKE A GOOD FIGHTING DOG(LMAO IMAGINE PIT FIGHTING CHIHUAHUAS!!!). THE OWNERS OF THESE DOGS AND THIS CAT OBVIOUSLY DIDNT CARE ABOUT THEIR ANIMALS.
I JUST THINK ITS SAD THAT WHEN A PERSON SEES A DOG ATTACK THEY AUTOMATICALLY THINK THE WORST. THESE DOGS MAY HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN PIT BULLS. THEY COULD BE CANE CORSOS, MASTIFF MIXES, MIXED BREED, AND SO MANY OTHER BREEDS THAT RESEMBLE PITBULLS. REMEMBER THE DOG ATTACK IN NY? THE ONE THAT WAS LAST YEAR AND EVERYONE SAID IT WAS A PITBULL? IT ENDED UP TO BE A MASTIFF AND THEN NO ONE REALLY SEEMED TO CARE. SO JUST BECAUSE THE ANIMAL RESEMBLES A PIT DOESNT MEAN IT IS ONE. WHEN I GET DOGS IN PEOPLE LIKE TO LABEL THEM ALL AS PITS WHEN IN FACT THEY ARE JUST A FORM OF BULLY BREED DOG. DID YOU KNOW THAT PIT BULL ISNT EVEN A REAL BREED OF DOG? IT IS A TERM USED TO DISCRIBE THE MIXTURE OF THE BREEDS THAT WERE USED TO CREATE THE IDEAL FIGHTING DOG. THIS MIXTURE INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, THE SHAR PEI, OLD ENGLISH BULL DOG, BULL TERRIER, BULL MASTIFF, CHOW CHOW, AKITA AND AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER. IN FACT THESE DOGS WE CALL A PIT BULL USED TO BE THE MOST POPULAR FAMILY DOG BACK IN THE 20S!!!
WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN IS THAT YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD ACO NEEDS TO DO HIS/HER JOB. THEY NEED TO DO PATROLS TO FIND ANIMALS THAT MAY BE AT LARGE THEN FIND OUT WHOSE ANIMALS THESE ARE. YOU AS A RESIDENT NEED TO TAKE PICTURES OF THIS STUFF AND REPORT IT TO THE PROPER ATHOURITIES. IF THE ACO DOESNT OR WONT DO ANYTHING THEN CALL YOUR CITY NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES DEPT.. TAKE CONTROL OF THE SITUATION, THERE ARE OBVIOUSLY SOME VERY IRRESPONSIBLE ANIMALS OWNERS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND SOMEONE NEEDS TO POINT THIS OUT. BUT PLEASE, I BEG OF YOU AND EVERYONE READING THIS, PLEASE REALIZE THAT NOT EVERY DOG THAT BITES OR IS AGRESSIVE IS A PITBULL. I HAVE WORKED WITH ANIMALS SINSE I WAS ABOUT 16(IM NOW 29) AND I USED TO THINK THIS WAY BECAUSE OF WHAT I WAS TOLD, UNTIL I GOT TO WORK WITH THESE DOGS. THEY HAVE THEIR POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES JUST LIKE ANY ANIMAL WE OWN AND HAVE DOMESTICATED.

Here we go again!!!!!!!!!!Here is a link to a great web page... http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html. This page is setup to demonstrate the misconceptions of just what a pitbull is, and what these dogs look like.
After visiting this page you can see why people can mistakenly blame an attack on a Pitbull when in fact it was an entirely different breed of dog.
That being said, in a review of 109 fatal canine attacks, among the many breeds involved, the dog breeds most frequently implicated were Pitbulls, Rottweilers, and German Shepherds. The repeated identification of these breeds has lead to the controversial development of breed bans, or "Breed Specific Legislation". Please note: the word implicated was used.

that's awful. What are the police waiting for - a person to get torn to pieces. Check the local pet laws/ ordinances about vicious pet definitions and the criteria for getting an animal determined "vicious" and thus not suitable as a domestic pet. If there is not a law there then write your local politicians and start a petition for a law like that to be made.

The animal control office in your area can take the dogs into custody and have the dogs ruled as aggressive and have them put to sleep. If these dogs do this to a cat they would do this to a baby too.
