It usually takes just weeks or months to fill a river valley when a dam is built. Lake Kariba, the world's biggest man made lake, took a few months to fill, and the river that filled it, the Zambezi, has a smaller flow than the Yangtze.

Approximate the area using Google Earth Premium. Then you will have to use some hydrologic calculations for rainwater in that respective geographic area. IDF curves and a hydrology program will be necessary to help in the calculations.
