I saw a waitress at a restaurant today that I am attracted to. This woman is considerably younger than me. I am 48 and some people say I look half my age. I need advice on how to approach her and get a date.

Please, don't use any cheesy lines. Simple, and honest is the best approach still. Just wait for her to have a free moment and ask her if you can speak with her for a moment by herself, if others are present, and simply say that she had waited on you and your friends the other evening and you thought she seemed like a nice person that you would like to get to know so you were wondering if she would like to go out to lunch with you. Starting with dinner can be a bit scary for some girls when it's a complete stranger asking them out. Lunch lets them meet the person in the daylight hours when things are a bit safer. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you. First dates can be so nerve racking and exhilarating at the same time! I envy you!

She is a waitress so she probably has to field lots of guys advances during her job, so if you ask she is just going to think that you are another dirty old man or something to that effect.

I suggest you just do the regular chit chat with her when you go and find out in a round about way what her situation is, does she have a bf/gf? What does she do in her free time? She will get more relaxed around you, then if she tells you something like she likes to go to the movies or to watch plays at some little club or dancing or something. You have some choices and can just ask her if she would like to go to one of these places with you. If she says yes, make a date...everything is downhill from there onwards.
