There's no way the flash player can take over 4 GB of memory. The whole Macromedia suite can fit on a CD which means less than 700 MB for Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, etc. If it does take that much, I will start to have doubts on the legitimacy of that file/folder.
Flash is used to play flash movies on the web, or certain sites use it as a mean to display video as an alternative to Real player , Microsoft Media Player, or Quicktime player. Youtube uses Flash for example. Removing it will not cause any problems, other than u can't view those sites. But u can redownload it and reinstall it, if u watch videos on the web.

There's no way that program should be using up that much space. Are you reading that in Megabytes? Try uninstalling it and downloading the new one from the Macromedia site. It really shouldn't be using any more that 20 or 30 Megabytes.

I doubt your Macromedia flash player uses 4 gigabytes of space...I would delete your temporary internet files, and run disk cleanup. Also maybe look into purchasing a bigger harddrive...

Run Disk Cleanup from your system tools.
If you have Windows XP,go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup.
It may take a few minutes.
After it finishes, follow the same path and run Disk Defragmenter.
It will also take awhile the first time.
Another quick way to cleanup unneeded files is to delete your cookies and temporary internet files.
At the top of your browser, click Tools/Delete cookies. Also delete files. You will have to sign back in to yahoo after you do this, but thats no big deal.
