There's no set answer for this. Different dogs have different nutritional needs. 8-month old dogs will probably eat a lot more than, say, a 3 year old dog, but it still depends on his activity level, size, the type of food you're feeding, and other things.

I have 3 dogs between 70 and 80 pounds. Two get 1 1/3 cups of food, one gets almost 2 cups per meal (twice a day). What you want to do is watch your dogs weight based on how much you are feeding. You should be able to gently feel ribs. If the ribs are very prominent under your fingertips, feed more. If you can't find the ribs, feed less. Your dog should also have a slight hourglass figure (called a tuck) behind the rib cage and before the hips.

That's about as specific as I can give, because it's just not an exact science.

Simple, buy him good quality dry kibble. Feed him twice a day - morning and evening. Put the food down for him to eat, if he doesn't eat it within 20minutes, take the food away and try again in the evening. Repeat as necessary. If he goes longer than 3 days without eating, talk to your vet. Make sure water is always available. When he's hungry, he'll eat....just don't give in!....and stop spoiling him, lol!

You should free feed your puppy, puppies do not tend to over eat. When it gets older it may and you will want to start feeding it a few times a day 2 - 3 depending on your schedule and preference. But right now your puppy needs a lot of energy & fuel to grow. Puppies can get worn down quickly because they have spurts of energy in between all their naps so they need to eat to sustain that. Free feed for a while.

this will depend on what you are feeding him/her and what sort of excercise it is getting but regardless you should feed twice a day untill 12 months it is better for the pups digestion to feed 2 small meals a day instead of 1large...and if your pup is anything like mine were as pups it will be a guts..lol.
