Then die. Just kidding.
How can you argue with people who believe that whatever is written in the Bible is true?
If it said the sky was pink, then that's what a lot of these fundamentalists would preach. They'd make up that you're unpure soul can't see the pink sky, or Jesus will give you the pink sky glasses when you die, or whatever to justify their crazy beliefs.
You could point at the sky, and say it's blue and they'd still say you're wrong.
I guess you could go back in time and write a "bible" older then their oldest version that says the sky was blue, then after many many years of fighting religious scholars - maybe 65% would believe you, the rest still dreaming of the day they could see the pink sky.
The only way to convince them is to break the hold religion has on them. Get them to abandon their beliefs in favor of thoughtful reflection and they may see.

There are several places where it mentions that people rise up out of the grave to either meet Jesus in the air, give testimony that God is God, etc.
That's why some think that you just stay in the grave until the Second Coming. However, the story of the beggar Lazarus makes that a rather unlikely thing. It's Luke 16:19-31 if you're interested in that story. In it, you see that the beggar Lazarus is in "the arms of Abraham" and being comforted. That is obviously not just laying in the grave.
I think the intent in showing the people rising from the "grave" is a mis-translation, but I've never truly investigated the original meaning of the greek word.

Good luck. You won't get the job done as your friend it correct. You stay in the grave till Jesus comes to get His people to take them back with HIm to Heaven. Here are a few that you might like.
Job 21 : 32 Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.
Psalms 6 : 5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
Psalms 49 : 14 Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
Ecclesiastes 9 : 10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
Isaiah 14 : 11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.
Isaiah 38 : 18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth
Psalms 146 : 4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.
Ecclesiastes 9 : 6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun
Pretty clear that when you die, you go to the grave and there are no more thoughts or feelings but you sleep till Jesus comes again.
1 Thessalonians 4: 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1 Thessalonians 4: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Looks pretty clear to me that you sleep till Jesus comes and then if you have accepted Him, you go back to Heaven when He comes for you. YOur friend is correct.

Good try. But you will loose. In the book of Luke in chapter 16:19
"There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22"The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23In hell,[c] where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'
25"But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'
27"He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, 28for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'
29"Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.'
30" 'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'
31"He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' "
Here is talking about that even in the grave you are concious, your body is dead but you are alive.

Once the soul leaves a person's body the person is dead. The soul travels to a waiting place and remains there until judgement day. (Hades). It is safe to say as of now there are no souls either in heaven or Hell. These places are our destiny after judgement day.

The Bible is very contradictory on this (surprise). Good luck finding a consensus!
My advice is to live as long as you can.

Theyre right. Many many passages tell us the dead are merely "asleep". Even when Christ goes to raise that little girl from the dead, he himself says she is merely asleep. They are waiting for their resucrection, wich will come when Christ returns.
