All of the hair on your head that you can see is already dead cells. So if you trimmed "just" the dead part, you would be bald. The only part of your hair that is part of your living body is the very root, inside your head.
I think the only thing you can do is wait for the colored part to grow out, and THEN have it cut off.
Better yet, don't have your hair colored in the first place! Good luck!

Are you trying to grow your hair long? Or do you just want to trim off previously dyed hair? It isn't bad to trim your hair, but if you're trying to grow it out, you are just making it take longer for your hair to reach the length you want. Provided your hair is not completely thrashed, your hair grows at a rate that is unrelated to the ends of the hair. Hair grows from the top, and the root bulb has no idea what the end of the hair shaft looks like.Regular trims do more to enhance the beauty salon's bank account than they do to enhance your hair.

I would think a trim every 6-8 weeks is the norm, but I don't think trimming is bad at all, it makes hair appear more healthy. PLus if your growing color out, it just keeps looking better!

No. The more you trim your hair, the faster it generally grows.
