You are using Windows 98 on your C Drive then there must be FAT 32 of partition type bcoz Windows 98 doesn't support NTFS.
although XP support both FAT 32 and NTFS partitions but if you are able to browse your D Drive from Windows 98 OS then there must be also FAT 32 type on D Drive and your XP is also using FAT 32 type partition system.

You can find out what file system you are using on your drives by right-clicking the drive in Windows Explorer or My Computer and selecting Properties.
The File System of the drive will be listed along with other information about the drive.
NOTE: If you are dual booting you should be using FAT.

In Xp Right click the drive u wnat to know and it will display the file system in the General tab. the same way in 98 too.
In 98 it won't display the NTFS file system So if ur XP drive does appear means ur XP drive is NTFS.

Windows 98 will use either FAT32 or FAT
and unless XP is on a different partition/harddrive it will also be using the FAT32 or FAT used by Windows 98. however i belive XP defaults to NTFS and 98 defaults to FAT32.
also, the way people mentioned above works, but just so you know some defualts
