Just a little bit of OCD. Stop watching TV for a while, or make yourself turn it off when you start this. YOu can also snap a rubber band on your wrist when you start this, to train yourself not to.

Sounds like you might have OCD - (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.) It's pretty common.
Do you partake in any other odd rituals? Do you count until you reach a certain number, or until it feels "right?"
Wash your hands a lot, clean doorknobs after someone touches them?
There are a TON of symptoms for OCD and repeating everything in your mind that you hear on TV sounds like OCD. If it's not, then it's definetely another type of mental disorder.

Sounds like very mild OCD. I've noticed very smart people who are easily bored tend to have little habits like this. Maybe you need to watch some more intellectually challenging tv shows?
Anyway, I doubt very much you need professional help, unless when you force yourself to stop you have a panic attack.
To me this sounds perfectly harmless anyway. Most (if not all) of us have little habits and rituals that get us through the day.

Yes-that is very weird! Why do repeat everything they say? Why do you watch television? Either turn the sub-titles on, on the television programs so that you can visualize what they are saying or turn the DAMN idiot box off and read a book.

I do that too, but a lot of the time I spell words I don't recognize. Your not a freak, I think it is because you are just focusing on comprehending what they are saying.

You are perfectly normal, we all do this at times. I sometimes go around counting all the straight sides and corners, and they also have to be counted in pairs, does that make me weird, I don't think so. I think you are just bored.

Maybe that's how you process what they are saying. You could be a auditory learner. When you hear something, to understand it, you need to say the things your self.
