whay has the Army swiched to the M4A1 while the Marines swiched to the M16A4

Cause there wasnt enough to go around and the better branch gets the better weapon....
Dont worry everyone for the Marines Im just bust your balls....

The M4A1 is a shorter weapon and fits better in vehicles. Hence the term "carbine". short rifle. The marine corps don't like to waste ammo shooting somebody multple times with a m4a1 when they could kill the same person with one shot with a m16a4.

It fits in side the cramped quarters of a Humvee and it's good for close in urban combat and it wastes lots of ammo when you get highly adrenalated soldiers in a fire fight.The M16A4 suits the Marines because of their sharpshooting traditions and limited budget.In Afghanistan, I was glad I had the M16A4 in lieu of the carbine because fitted with an unauthorized scope I had reach!

The Marines budget is controlled by the Navy I believe. So Marines often get the short end of the stick equipment wise.

Give me a good old M16, I can shoot a Nat's butt at 400m The M4 is good for close Urban assault, the M16 can reach out and touch someone:)

should they have the new weapon - the XM8?....i read it was supposed 2 be in use around 2003 if not early...i guess its not true

both fire the same ammo...5.56mm
so one is not more powerful than the other...
the shorter weapon is less accurate at farther ranges
