Okay. I went to free-codecs.com and downloaded the all-in-one codec pack. Ya know, the one that plays DivX and XviD, OGG, & AC3. But after I downloaded the torrent file. Windows Media Player & RealPlayer both say that they don't have the software to play the file. But I already downloaded it!!!! Any suggestions? Thanks.

Try Media Player Classic, it has always worked for me.

One thing that wasn't clear in ur question, is that u said u downloaded "the torrent file". By that do u mean u downloaded a file called "moviename.torrent" or the actual "moviename.avi" (or other extension) using bittorent?

If it's a movie.torrent file, then that's not a movie file. That's a file that will connect u to the torrent network that u need to load using a torrent downloader like Azureus or Bittorrent, etc.

Otherwise if u already have the avi file, then it's probably a codec issue, or if u're unlucky, it could be a corrupted file. As I said before, try Media Player Classic (MPC), it's a standalone program, so u don't even need to install it, just unzip it on ur desktop and open it. As for the codec pack I'm using, it's called Matroska codec pack. Combined with MPC, it ran 99% of everything I watched (only one movie with sound but no image, but that's it).

1: do a fullcheck on the torrent to ensure no checksum errors 2: never trust any of the comments on whatever torrent site you got the link from 3: update ALL of your codecs even if you already got them and not just the K-Lite ones 4: bite the bullet and get another version - or better yet avoid torrents and join a release list

you can use g-spot software to find the actual codec used to encode the video file and then search for that codec. It recognises most of the common codecs

(also remember that the file with the .torrent extension is not the video file, you have to download the video file using the torrent file)

You have to install the codecs after you download them.

You have to have a player that the codec works with (duh). Also I really hope this is after you've downloaded the torrent file...
