Personally, I prefer Apple. I've never really cared for Dell laptops. They tend to have flimsy keyboards. I abhor Sony and their business practices. They are more interested in locking their customers into proprietary formats than providing the products people want. I've never used an HP laptop so I can't comment. I know my response is heavily biased, but this is a completely subjective question.

If you are a PC person, stick with PC. Apples are a completely different world and the same is true in reverse. I have a Dell and I love it and wouldn't change it for anything. My last computer was an Apple that was given to me. While I loved the fact that it was much more compact with the entire system being in one piece, hard drive and monitor that is, I just didn't know my way around in it to fix things when something went wrong. It's like cat people and dog people, Mac people and PC people rarely can switch sides. Good luck and happy shopping! One more great thing about Dell though is their customer support is great as are their prices!

Since I'm a big user of hp I would go with them, their not that costly and you get great tech support.

I have never used a Sony computer, but I know they are costly.

I have used dell computer and though they are decent computer, their tech support bites.

And apple, computers can go either way. If you are more familiar with a windows computer, an apple might be a big adjustment. But if your looking for a computer for graphic design and making videos then you may want to go with an apple.

If you don't know yet - then obviously you shouldn't dive in too deep. It really depends on what you want to use it for. I personally don't care about brand names as all computers come with warranties now adays. I look for features!

If this is your first, then you will probably get into the Mac Windows debate. Mac is trying to usurp windows, but no matter how much advertising they do, it just doesn't seem to be happening. Don't buy the uninformed hype that you need a Mac for photos and mp3's, it just isn't true. I do all that stuff with windows based software.

Just go for a low budget windows based machine with a warranty. Get the features you want first. Don't let brand names be your guide! It's a computer not clothes!

Dell Insprion 9400 is very good to me so far after 4 months.
Big 17" widescreen is nice to.
IMO, stay away from HP.

Apple are good for graphic design but not much else, IBM think pad's are a lot more compatible with all the programs out there.
