I WANTED MY CHILDREN TO RESPECT THEMSELVES AND RESPECT OTHERS AND DID NOT EXPECT PERFECTION, AS THAT DID LEAVE ROOM FOR MAKING MISTAKES AND LEARNING FROM THOSE MISTAKES.

I don't think all parents want perfection, but probably some do. I know that for my kids I would just want them to be the best that they can be and respect themselves and everyone else. I don't need them to be perfect or live up to my definition of what I want them to be.

No, Parents just want their children to do their best. Sometimes the kids don't realize what their best is so the parent tries to guide them. This is where we come off as looking like we expect perfection but all we want is for you to do your best! Once you are confident you have done your best then that, my dear, is perfection!

No, Good parents know that their child isn't perfect, and they love them the way they are. What most parents do want is a child who trys their best at whatever they do.

The parents who want perfection are either the ones who are control freaks, or they screwed up their own lives, and they think that their kids can be like their second chance at being a success.

I am a mother of four and don't expect my kids to be perfect by any means. They are human and they will make mistakes in life just like everyone else. The only things I really ask of my kids is to make decent grades, always be honest, and be happy with what they decide to do with their futures.

No! We want success...we want to see the results of our hard work and all the precious time we invested in our children. I believe that no parent should expect "perfection" I had to re-think that with my Daughter...I am proud that she has reached goals far beyond my expectations because I did allow the one word "CAN'T" in our household and she grew up always believing she "COULD" achieve anything she set her mind to..
I won't count this as perfection...I just call it "Success" !

As a parent I dont want perfection, I just want my child to try the very best he can and have fun doing it. Perfection is unobtainable.

I think that many parents see their children as a reflection of their own self worth. When mine were growing up I always kept a copy of Kahil Gibran's essay on Children. He says that if we as parents want to be like our children, we have that right, but we do not have a right to try to make our children like we are. Personally, I think that as a parent, if you go with what they love, you can't go wrong. Can you think of anything worse than your parents making you practice the piano if that is not something you really like????
