You shouldn't fast until you have already begun a healthy eating habit and have already cleaned out your system with vegies and good foods. I fast from Sunday night till Monday night every week (this means I only drink water). But when I begin eating again, I start with small amounts of nutritional food--no meat or really heavy foods. This has worked for me for years.

There is no use to fasting, it will only make you hungrier, it won't help or give any beneficial effects, unless for religious purposes. And if you are doing a diet remember NEVER to skip meals, it doesn't help at all. A good diet is one where you eat every meal, eat a regular amount (not the tons of food we usually eat), eat healthy meals (fruit, skim milk, grains, egg beaters, lean meat...) and don't feel too hungry. If you feel too hungry you'll end up eating again.

And no diet is effective if it's not accompanied by an exercise plan. Good luck!

If you are not a Muslim on Ramadhan month, fasting will only make you more hungry and you will eat more than what you normally eat to fill up your stomach. The best way to diet is to eat 6 times a day. 3 low fat high fiber main meals and 3 fresh fruit snacks. You cannot afford to make your stomach empty. Believe me, you will eat more when you are hungry. Plus you have to drink lots and lots of water.

Fasting is tricky, but you don't have to fast before starting a new diet. In fact, you shouldn't go on a diet in the first place. You need to change the way you eat. You need to be eating 3 modest meals a day with 3 reasonable snacks, and eating around 1500-1700 calories a day to lose weight and 2000-2200 to maintain weight. You should be eating brightly colored, high fiber fruits, berries, and vegies every day along with lean proteins such as chicken, fish, turkey, lean ham, nuts, peanut butter, beans, and whole wheat, whole grain, high fiber carbs such as wheat bread, wheat pasta and tortillas, wheat, whole grain crackers, cereals, oatmeals, and soy products such as soy milk, soy crisps, and soy nuts and low/non fat dairy products. you NEED to exercise to lose weight effectively and to keep it off. if you have never exercised, or you are out of shape, start with 15-30 minutes a day. it can be split up into to segments a day. after a month of progress increase your time by 10 minutes a month until you are doing an hour of aerobic exercising a day such as walking, swimming, running, sprinting, any type of aerobics, rollerblading, dancing. after a month, start to incorporate weight training/ resistance training to help build some muscle. muscle will help you burn more calories even at rest. drink plenty of water and green tea and eat as natural as you can. don't deprive yourself and eat a treat once in awhile, but eat only ONE serving. good luck

well the "fast" thing is a little much i think instead you should eat 3 meals a day but have smaller portions. also if you have a dog or even a cat start walking around your neighborhood little by little walk farther and take any chance that you can to walk run or any form of exercise.
