Not that it really matters or can change my faith but I am curious how they REALLY feel about us.DO you hate ALL of us or just SOME of us? Or do you just feel we are foolish and misguided?

Peace and Prayers,
Debra

Can I not actually just be curious? I am wondering if behind some of the polite exterior there is a different facet.

There is not one single answer to your question. Atheists and agnostics are not a monolithic group whose thinking is defined by a hard and fast set of rules describing how they should view the religious. In fact, some people who do not believe in a God also resent being defined by their position on that question. They feel that to call them 'atheists' confers too much importance on a question they believe to be of relatively little signifigance in their lives.

Christians and other Theists are not a monolithic group whose thinking is defined by a hard and fast set of rules, either. Look at all the different denominations of Christianity there are (literally hundreds if not thousands) and all the different non-Christian faiths. My late father used to say that there were billions of religions in the world, one for each individual. I often wonder if he wasn't right.

The opinions of the people who are lumped into one vaguely defined category about the people lumped into an opposing, equally vaguely defined category are impossible to reduce down to one or two lines of text.

I think that, in general, people whose faith is very dogmatic, closed-minded and denies demonstrable truths that science has discovered are viewed by many both within and without faith based communities as detrimental to meaningful discussions of either science or faith (or almost any other important subject for that matter). Because these dogmatic, closed-minded believers (fundamentalists of all faiths, I would suggest) tend to be the most outspoken and the most adamant about the primacy of their set of beliefs, they tend to become the public face of religion, and as such give the whole business a bad name.

Too bad, really.

i just think your foolish and misguided. I don;t hate any of you, but i have a very strong dislike for the fundies and christians who insist on trying to convert me to their religion, or constantly tell me i am going to hell. I am an atheist, i don;t believe in hell. other than that, i take a live and let live attitude, even though i occasionally ask some really nasty questions. In my opinion each individual who answers the question is responsible for his or her own reaction. If you choose to get upset with me, that's your choice. Although alot of the questions i ask are about my kids who attend a christian church with their grandparents. I am an atheist but i recognize the importance of giving them religious education in a variety of faiths, so that when they are old enough they are able to make an informed decisions about their spiritual faith. Whatever faith they choose or if they choose no faith, its fine with me as i respect the individual rights of each person.

We don't think anything of you. Just leave us alone. Many of you can't leave us alone, maybe it's the whole Hell concept, anyway, all we ask is to live and let live.

We have societal morals. We don't hate others. We don't want to "convert" others. Just try to be as happy and as friendly as you can with your life. It's yours. Do with it what you will. If it takes your tribal God images to get through it, more power to you. Just have enough intelligence to realize that everyone doesn't think like you do, but can be as good, if not better, person than yourself.

As an edit, to tnkumar1, I have "debated" with Christians in the past. They've invited me to their prayer meetings. I have accepted. They have put a couple of their best debaters with me to talk. I think we came away with a stalemate at best. Although I believe I won the argument.

But the strangest thing happened afterward, and during the following days. None of them talked to me again. Ever. They barely acknowledged me in the hallways. I was never mean to them. I always said "Hi". Somehow, I doubt Jesus would have approved.

Im agnostic...For me personally I dont think your foolish or misguided or any thing else (Except if your one of those bible toteing women) I think you should go on with you life. Dont belong to any faith, have fun with your life with no restrictions (not anarchy) but be a free spirit.

I look at an individual. I never define a person by the belief system they choose to believe in because that is their personal choice. No I may not agree or believe in the theology but that would never keep me from letting me see a good person for who they are.

This depends totally on the person. I am agnositc, not because I don't believe things, but because my beliefs don't necessiarly conform to a particular church.

I am open to other peoples idea, and I think each person much choose their own path in life, this includes religion, and there are many right paths.

It really dosnt matter. Cause the truth is that everybody should respect other people's faiths and religion.

Atheists shouldnt try to disprove religion, and people who have a religion shouldnt try to force it on atheists.

I've met Christians who are loving, caring, nice people who don't try to convert me, and I've also met Christians who have called me a "hell-bound baby-killing lesbian" because I told them I'm an atheist. Because of that, I try not to assume anything about people until I know them.

There are no Atheists and Agnostics in the world. All Atheists and Agnostics always want to disprove there is no God indirectly admitting there is God because you cannot disprove something which is not already there. So according to me there is no Atheists and Agnostics. I have gone into a number of debates and discussions and I have won all of these in majority of votes.

I take people on a case by case basis. I try not to generalize (though we all do). I hope that helps.
