Is it a realistic goal, in the 21rst Century, to eradicate fundamentalist religion, ie: those sects of modern religion that cause violence.
Examples would include terrorist groups, and those groups that blow up abortion clinics.
Essentially what this question is - is all can we hope for is to eradicate those religious organizations that seek to do violence, and live peacefully amougst those religions, who the worst we can expect from them is "you are going to hell if you don't believe as I do"
I feel it is a neccessary goal to whipe out those who want to whipe out me, and to do so before they do me. THis is one of the reasons I support the Bush foreign policy. When a Democrat is elected in 2008, the war on terrorism will continue, so it will go forever and ever, until the scourge of fundamentalism is eradicated.
What are your thoughts on this?

...I think it's unrealistic to assume that we can get rid of ANY fundamentalist religion altogether. We'll always remove as much of the unwanted growth as possible, but we'll never be good enough... there will ALWAYS be a relapse.
I am of the belief that if we keep fighting fire with fire, we'll simply end up with metaphorical third degree burns and no resolution. If we can't help but lower ourselves to behaving as our enemies do, engaging in the very behavior for which we deplore and condemn our enemies, the very behavior which we feel justifies branding them villains and subhuman, then what will there be left to fight for?
An America that cannot and doesn't even pretend to live by the ideals it values so much? An America that can be considered no less of a villain than it's enemies? An America indistinguishable from the enemies it purports to rise above?
Yes, preservation of OUR life is important, but are we now so "cautious" a nation that we exterminate anything and anyone who might possibly be a potential threat somehow? Do we just start hacking away? Do we ACTUALLY care about the right to life, or just the right to American life?

I believe terrorists from any belief system need to be held accountable for their actions as they are detrimental to not only our society but a global society. I think a reasonable goal would be to try and end religious extremism in this century. I have no problems with people who practice their beliefs without pushing them onto others.
I'll be honest, I don't like the President and only see value in about half his foreign policy. For me though, that is probably because I hold a B.S. in Human Services Management and because of that I feel not enough is done for the needy in this country and yeah that irks me a little.

Huzzah! I agree. Since they like the expression "turn or burn" we should put it to them in those words so they will understand better that we mean business. However, I favor banishment over death, because it keeps us on a level above their barbarism. Just group them together and give them a free ride to an island, and have them televised, not only as a security measure, but for entertainment and preventative measures to show the rest of the world the humane and strict punishment for such behavior. They would have to live like the people on "Survivor" and learn how their primative actions put them in this primative environment to stay. They might even like it there away from the secular world.

Is this a joke?
You say that you support Bush's foreign policy and yet you don't support terrorism in religions who teach it and I have this to say to you.
If the war continues way past 2008, it surely won't be any Democrat's fault but the acts of terrorism that your sweet Bush has brought on to this world and no one else.
It's Bush's acts of being a "christian" that is causing some of the problems of war in Iraq. He is shoving his stupid beliefs down the throats of those who don't want anything to do with it nor him.
Terrorist groups that blow up abortion clinics are sick but so are the acts of terrorism that kill those who don't want change in their lives such as those in Iraq.
I am completely against all acts of terrorism no matter what country or group they are including Bush's. I love my country but now I can't say I'm proud of it because of what our military is forced to do in other countries and I do mean FORCED to do.
So don't pit you garbage on my doorstep but put it where it rightfully belongs at Bush's doorstep and I for one have more pride than to say I was a Bush supporter for any reason at all because I'm not insane enough to do that for any reason as you apparently are.

If that's the way you want it - Okay
Last week you were asking questions about peanut butter.
Two days ago you were helping somebody with their question about "how can I stick a mouse up my tuchas?"
and now this.
Jim_Darwin, does your mother know what you are doing?

You lump of fundamentalists has a hole in it. It is one of the strangest in religion. Israeli fundies and Muslim fundies like to kill people. Interestingly, Christian fundies like to regulate your morality.
Just thought I'd add that. Maybe you can spin it in one of your questions.
