C'mon, people, wake up, use your brain, what the heck!!
I see here books like Harry Potter or that stupidity, the da vinci code, or, this must be a winner, all the books written by danielle steel... I simply don't get it, frankly... why don't you try reading and something else ??
one of the best selling books, at its time, was Ken Kessey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - and that is a fine book, that worth the time spent reading it... Another was Kazantzakis' Alexis Zorba (incidentally, both books were brought to screen, and, as goes for the last one, is one of those situations when the movie is better than the original, but, still, it remains a great book). Also, there is a Russian born French author, Andrei Makine by his name, which has some extraordinary books, for example Dreams of My Russian Summers, a book that gave me hope that it is still possible today to write in the true meaning of the word. Anyway, with the bestsellers there is a problem, specifically that not often you can find a good one, most of them being written just for commercial purposes.

The Ruins: Scott Smith
The World is Flat: Thomas Friedman
Mayflower: Nathiel Philbrick
Those will keep your busy for a little while anyway...
Had to give you something with substance rather than the crap people have listed above, esp. Dan Brown and Danielle Steele. I mean, gawd, you DID ask for GOOD bestselling books.

"The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls.
It's a memoir about her childhood and being raised (or barely being raised) by parents who aren't quite with it. The parents are both highly intelligent however the dad is an alcoholic and the mother seems to be suffering from a manic depressive disorder as well as not having the ability to 'mother'. The parents aren't terrible people but there cheese has definitely slipped off their cracker.
The chapters are short, 5-6 pages, and each chapter is kind of a mini story about 'a day in the life'. It's an easy read and your interest will be kept throughout the story.
