Whenever she starts barking outside, which is often, I bring her right in. She barks when people go by on the sidewalk, when neighbours are outside, when she hears noices from the park behind us (through the woods), etc.

Perhaps I should add that she WANTS the people to stop and pet her. She loves people.

She's a 7 month old golden retriever. I don't want to do anything to hurt her though so no shock treatments.

Bark collars are not inhumane. If you have tried sociallizing her and training her properly without hitting then a bark collar is sometimes your only option. You can set the setting on the lowest possible setting and it only will zap her when she keeps barking. You have to also tell her a command "quiet" so that she will associate it with her barking and learn that barking is not going to get her what she wants. She's obviously friendly and as you said wants the people to pet her. But you don't need a dog that is going to bark all the time. Don't leave the collar on her all the time though, put it on her for a few hours a day and start to train her by using the collar. I forgot to mention get a bark collar that has a remote control so that you can use the "quiet" command and then when she doesn't respond you can then use the remote to initiate the small zap she will get. If any one thinks its cruel they should try one by putting it on their arm and trying it out. I did before I used it on my dog.

First of all, NEVER use a no bark collar, those things are inhumane and really need to be outlawed. Try socializing her better, when you take her for walks carry treats with you and ask anybody you meet to give her a treat, that way she learns that people are something good, not bad. You can also try using an empty coffee or soda can and fill it with a couple of pennies, when she barks, shake it to distract her. As soon as she is quiet from the distraction give her a treat and verbally praise her. If that doesn't work then squirt her with water using a squirt bottle and then again praise her once she is quiet.

You may want to try to show her where the noise's are coming from and introduce him/her to what she is barking at, and when you do show her what it is she barking at reward her for being quiet and eventually she'll quiet down

you can get a chain that shocks the dog every time it barks. I think it works quite well.
