when i was in Iraq, and heard, gunfire, and saw the dead that had been killed a long time ago and the dead that i caused. I felt oddly calm and at peace.

If there is a reason for living then it might be to procreate in order to continue the DNA into the future. Remember I said IF. So it is not entirely "just to die". We have to die otherwise the evolutionary process would no longer work. We would get stuck and never adapt to our environment and conditions.
I too think about death but with a sense of curiosity. I accept that it is gong to happen so there is no point worrying about it. Make the best of your life and don't dwell on death too much. It will take up too much of your life...... Now go forth and multiply - or at least practice, practice, practice. WEEEEEEE....

I get excited (hmm...that sounds a little weird). I've read about people life after death experiences and the afterlife sounds so wonderful! All your questions are answered, and their is no physical pain, and you are surrounded by your loved ones. No work, illness, or mean people! Of course, the actual dying part seems a little scary, but hey, if it takes a little pain to get out of this crazy earth to someplace that great, I am game.
It sounds like you are starting to question what the purpose of life is, which is a very good question. If there is no afterlife and we are all just little bits of biology, "living to die" would be really creepy. But when you read more about NDEs (near death experiences), it seems like so many people have had similar experiences, and it's easier to see that there is a purpose to living, and death is just the end of our education on earth, and the beginning of our real, exciting life.
That said, your feelings about death are very normal There is a crapload of famous poetry about death that reflects just what you are saying, like many poems by Emily Dickinson. It fascinates and scares us because we have no way to stop it. But you'll probably live to be 93, so I wouldn't worry too much!

I think it has a lot to do with your beliefs. Personally I'm not afraid of death, but then I know that when I die I will meet up again with my little boy.So in a way its a calm feeling I have.
Do you feel funny when you think about death or dying? There is a difference.I believe that when you eventually leave this place all your pain, both mentally and physically, melt, and you are free from all the heartache that has accumulated during your life

I don't feel like that any more since I came to know Jesus as my Savior. Now I look at my own death as just the end of my labors here on earth as I go on to my eternal reward. However, when I think about the death of unsaved relatives and friends it's a different story. Then I feel anxious because I don't want them to be separated from God and myself for all eternity.

No, I don't. Probably I feel secure in knowing that I'm going to a wonderful place and that God is waiting for me. You don't live just to die, you have a purpose, I suggest you find out what that is and live it. If you don't your life will be just as you said, outlandish.

i dot't really feel anything when i think about death in general, even if it is mine. after all we're all going to die sometime. if i think about the death of someone i knew or a pet i had and loved, i feel sad, as do most people. if you think about death often, you should consider talking to someone about it. maybe a pastor or someone from a metal health hotline.

You need to figure out your life... You need to figure out if you believe in a high power *( God )* and if you believe in heaven... hell... or whatever else is offered now days when you die... As a christian I know and believe that times I feel anxious about something its God talking to me... If you get goose bumps or that funny feeling maybe its time to speak to a minister and get your life straightened out so you no longer have to worry about death. *( Especially if coincidentally this "funny feeling" comes when thinking about death )*... I say its God... Find a christian minister... they see lots of people over this each day..
God Bless!

I don't really think about death. You're alive, why waste your time on earth being depressed about death?
