I thought only foods high in fat - like milk, cheese, eggs, fatty meats etc., caused high cholestral. People at work are telling me that too much sugar causes high cholestral. give me the basic facts please - not long and involved.

Excess carbohydrate (sugars) can lead to higher triglycerides but not higher cholesterol

If the fat content is also high it will effect your cholesterol also.

sweets do not cause high cholesterol, it's just sugar.
