We had some electrical contracting done last week. We paid in full when the job was done (it was in our contract).

When we had our roof repaired, we gave the contractor 1/3 of the cost so he could buy the shingles for the roof.

The Better Business Bureau recommends that you do NOT pay the contractor BEFORE the job is done. You can make arrangements to pay him a fee to cover the cost of materials.

I recommend checking with the BBB before you begin anything with a contractor. This is your hard-earned money. If it is a reputable contractor, the business has enough $ to buy supplies, etc. Don't be pressured into making a big decision right away. That should signal to you that the contractor is not acting on the -up-and-up.

It is also o.k. to get other estimates before making your decision. This helps you to decide if the cost of your job is legitimate and cost effective.

Well you can buy everthing for them, or you can give them a deposit. I'm sure they get ripped off too, just as often. They do the work then the people never pay up, then they are out labour and materials. This is why you should go with a reputable company or contractor.

First off check to make sure they are reputable licensed contractors, I would only pay a certain amount down, when the job is done to your liking then pay the rest.

It is a custom to ask for a budget. After the budget, you and the contractor agree in a kis onf downpayment, or advanced payment. The rest is paid when the job is finished and at your total satisfaction.

Pay them the first half if necessary and no more than that. Pay the other half after work has been completed and to your satisfaction.

Pay half and pay the rest when the job is done to your satisfaction.
Never pay full up front.

IF YOU NEED TO FIX YOUR HOUSE THEN YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO PAY ONLY HALF OF IT UP FRONT THEN PAY THE REST WHEN THE JOB IS FINISHED..
