The social worker will only require that you have a room that is safe and can be set up as the baby's or child's room but it need not be furnished now. You will, however, need to show the financial ability to care for the child. Be prepared to answer questions like will you send him to daycare or stay at home? how many hours will you work? etc...

Perhaps you should furnish the room with a dresser, a mobile, and some plush toys. Don't get a crib or a bed until you know what age range you'll be adopting, The most important part about the homestudy is that your house should feel inviting and safe for a child, and that you are a welcoming parent for that child. Good luck.

No. We just had an empty room with some of our stuff in it. The social worker didn't even care that it wasn't baby-proofed or anything yet. There will be home visits after you adopt and That's when you want to have everything safe, set up, etc.

I don't think so, but you should be able to prove that you have adequate room for a child. Make sure it is baby-proofed

I think all you have to do is prove you have a nice place for the kid to live. But to be safe have a bed and some extra stuff.
